"GAVE UP"
Oh my goodness, so many people liked this book - I really wanted to like it too! However I found it painfully slow! The choice of an Australian narrator ruined this book for me. It is set in England, the characters should be English!
I hoped this book would be engaging, instead listening it was a chore, my mind wandered and became easily distracted. I managed to listen to it and rewind and listen to it again, for 4 hours. I hate to waste my audible credits; each one is precious so I wish I had not bought this book.
Looking over previous reviews people seem to love it or hate it. I hope you love it but I didn’t.
"Smiled the whole way through"
if you like Derren you will like this book.
it is witty and enjoyable.
Smiled the whole way through this book.
he is a great narrator and delivery of the book was really well done.
"interesting"
Enjoyed listening to this book. its an easy going microbiography from a nice guy. Enjoyable listen.
"Really Enjoyed it"
I really enjoyed this book. however i wish i had read this one first, then the "Captive Queen of Scots" which follows on straight away.
the naration is great, very easy and engaging way to learn about history.
"Wonderful Method, very clear instructions"
As we have just got a new puppy we got this audio book to listen to in the car on the long drive to take her to the beach - it is wonderful and gives you all you need to know teach your dog good manners in a way that you both enjoy. It does contain difficult subject matter to listen to when she describes the cruelty that she has witnessed, but the positive message of the book shines through. It teaches you all you need to know to manage your dog with Sit, stay etc but goes a lot further than that. There are descriptions of how to stop barking, heal dog anxieties and phobias and good lead walking. She uses treats and clear communication to help the dog learn best. We looked at the paper version of this book and realised that the audio version contains everything the book has. Wonderful book, well worth a purchase.
"Wonderful, funny, heart felt account of difficulty"
Richard Hammond is a well loved British face and this open account of his recent accident was so touching. His wife, Mindy's account of the experience moved me to tears. It is also an uplifting book, highly recommended for anyone who has suffered a brain injury or anyone who is just a fan of cars!
"Well worth listening to"
I Listened to these short stories a while ago and had to write a review when I read the previous 3 opinions! I find Yann Martels subject matter challenging to listen to - these short stories are also challenging subjects but wonderfully written and well worth a listen. They are thought provoking and a welcome change to much of the happy ever after literature that we have access too. Please give them a try.
"buy the book instead"
This is a very important book, recommended by many influential teachers of our time. HOWEVER this is a prime example of when it would be best to get a professional narrator to read this text not the author.
The Author is not doing any justice to this text by attempting to read it. I have tried many times, only to turn it off a few minutes later.
It is a real shame that the author’s delivery is so bad his message will be lost in this format.
