"Kate Stumbles"
When I have finished with a Kate Morton book I am left with a sad sense of disappointment because I don’t want the story to end. I want to know more. I want to sit and chat with the protagonist and chew the story over. But sadly with this new book I have to say I was glad for it to finally be over. I’m still shocked that I feel that way. I find myself reexamining the feeling to be sure that’s what I really feel, and yes, sadly, it is.
The characters of “The Secret Keeper” were extremely difficult to empathize with. I struggled from the very beginning to find one to latch onto, to root for. The leading characters were, for the most part, neither endearing nor engaging, however I slogged through the book, sure that Kate Morton wouldn’t let me down, and near the end I finally found what I had been looking for. The last third of the book held me riveted and redeemed the story. I finally discovered the character I wanted to keep as my imaginary friend. Sadly, it was too little too late.
Caroline Lee’s delivery of the book was, as always, sublime.
"Great Fantasy Romp for Every Techno Geek Over 20"
H*** Yeah! Even though it's set in the not too distant future, this book was a wonderful romp down down memory lane.
The author's love of technology and the players who just can't leave it alone shines through.
He allows the geek in each one of us to indulge in a little player fantasy outside of our everyday lives..
I have not heard any of his other performances, but this narration blew me away! He was spot-on.
When Wade/ Parzival finds himself immersed in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and he realizes he must say the dialog from the movie perfectly - I think I was more excited than he was!
I was reluctant to purchase this book when it first came out. Fool!! This has been one of the best books I have listened to in some time. Buy, beg, borrow, or steal a copy. You won't regret it!
"Heart Wrenching Story, Great Narrator"
I would! I became so engrossed in the story as it switched between the past and the present that I think it would only enhance this story to listen to it again.
I loved her Irish accents. Though I wouldn't know how accurate she was, she subtly changed her voice to reflect intonations from different parts of Ireland. She really added to my enjoyment of the book.
I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who has enjoyed books by Kate Morton.
