Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

I absolutely loved this book! I was leery about reading another teen supernatural book - I thought the Twilight books were awful (Vampires that glow in sunlight and play baseball? You've got to be kidding!) But I'm so glad I listened to Beautiful Creatures. The relationship between Lena and Ethan is developed as they get to know each other and reveal themselves to each other as opposed to the Twilight series where the attraction is all about how Bella smells. The authors really know how to portray the age old teenage question - how do I choose who I want to be? I highly recommend this book to teens and adults alike.

Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them. Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules.

I really liked this book. It was so interesting to listen to the story from the point of view of someone who was human - but felt like he didn't fit into the world of the 'people'. The people are never referred to as vampires or monsters, instead it is understood that the people are normal - and the main character is the one who is different. The one who has to adapt in order to fit in.

I was surprised by the very ending of the book - so much that I immediately had to see if there was another book by Andrew Fukuda. I grew to care about the characters in the book and wanted to know what happens to them next!

Like so many others, Ramón Espejo ran from the poverty and hopelessness of the Third World to the promise of a new world, joining a host of like-minded workers and dreamers aboard one of the great starships of the mysterious, repulsive Enye. But the life he found on the far-off planet of São Paulo was no better than the one he had abandoned.

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

I bought this book cause I was tired of waiting for the next Song of Fire and Ice book. Thought I would enjoy another story by George RR Martin. Boy was I disappointed. This book seemed to drag on forever. There were about seven times I thought - this will be the end of the book, but no it dragged on some more.

I don't usually write reviews, but felt strongly enough about this book that I thought I could save someone else the money - don't waste it on this book.

Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for Dex. She prays for fate to intervene, but when she makes a choice she discovers that the lines between right and wrong are blurry, endings aren't always neat, and you have to risk all to win true happiness.

Would you try another book from Emily Giffin and/or Jennifer Wiltsie?

    No

Has Something Borrowed turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Yes

What character would you cut from Something Borrowed?

    All of them!

    Any additional comments?

I could not finish this book - it was that bad. The characters were not likeable at all. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in them. And the story just dragged. After 2 hours of waiting for something to happen, I gave up.
