  • The Awakened Mage

    • UNABRIDGED (23 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Karen Miller
    • Narrated By Kirby Heyborne
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

"The evil foretold has risen...and we are all that stands between it and the end." Asher has come a long way for a fisherman's son. Together with his friend Prince Gar, he has defended their kingdom against its bitterest enemy, but at great cost. Now, the evil mage Morg is preparing for his most deadly assault. Desperate, trapped in a broken body, Morg has little time and fewer scruples. And he has a plan. As Gar and Asher unwittingly fall into a dangerous deception, Morg gets ever closer to his goal.

Bruce says: "Well crafted heroic Fantasy"
    "It started out interesting but..."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. While I did enjoy the first book to some extent, and the first part of this one, the ending was hard to get through. It seemed almost as if Karen Miller was just trying to end it, and just seemed to kill off almost all of the characters that I liked. There were a few things that left me wondering, but not enough to see if maybe those questions will be answered in another book. It seemed as if the last fifty pages or so just seemed to be a way to just get the book over with already, and I found it a great strain to force myself to listen to the last bit of the book.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nothing else by this author. After this book I was extremely put off on reading the rest of her books.

Which character ??? as performed by Kirby Heyborne ??? was your favorite?

None. I will say that Dathne was my most hated character of the book. In my opinion, she is too foolish, and I think she gets in the way of Gar and Asher's relationship. She doesn't seem to make any good decisions, and is extremely insolent. She's way too childish in my opinion.

Did The Awakened Mage inspire you to do anything?

Not to buy anymore books by this author.

    Any additional comments?

I would listen to anything else the narrator did. He's the only part of this book that I really enjoyed.

  • Carnal Innocence

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Nora Roberts
    • Narrated By Tom Stechschulte
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

New York Times best-selling novelist Nora Roberts captivates millions of fans with her provocative blend of scorching passion and chilling suspense. With Carnal Innocence, she creates a gripping tale of murder, infatuation, and true love in a small southern town. After beautiful concert violinist Caroline Waverly breaks up with her conductor and lover Luis, she escapes to her late grandmother’s home in Innocence, Mississippi.

Karen says: "The wait has ended"

I've always been a fan of Nora Roberts' more thriller/mystery based novels. So when I came across this one and realized that I hadn't heard it yet, I instantly bought it. While the narration was vaguely annoying at times, (The accents bothered me some) the book itself was outstanding. As I was listening, I was sitting on the edge of my seat, racking my brain to figure out who the killer was. Most times with some of Nora's books, it's obvious as to who the murderer will be before you even get to the end. This one, though, I never saw it coming.

I was blindsided when I heard who the murderer was. The character was one of my favorites, and when I heard just who it was, I was mind blown. It was the last thing I had suspected, and I must give a round of applause to Mrs. Roberts for her outstanding plot twist. This book was greatly worth the money and time spent listening, and I've already suggested it to many people. This is a great buy.

  • The Enchantress: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Book 6

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Michael Scott
    • Narrated By Paul Boehmer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Adapted from the hardcover edition of The Enchantress, this long-anticipated audiobook brings the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series to its stunning conclusion. The twins of prophecy have been split. Nicholas Flamel is near death. John Dee has the swords of power. And Danu Talis has yet to fall. The future of the human race lies in the balance - how will the legend end?

    G. House Sr. says: "A Staggering Disappointment"
    "An epic conclusion."

This book was simply amazing and a very stunning conclusion to a series that I found myself addicted to since the first book. I find myself rather melancholy at knowing that this is the last book in the series, but I was pleased with the way it ended.

Many questions had been raised throughout the series, and all of them were answered in this last book. I was not disappointed in the way this book ended at all. I could see myself listening to this series again.

One of my favorite things about this book though was the character development. Throughout the other books, I had always wondered just what would become of some characters. I was shocked several times by the way some characters developed, though it was never a bad shock. All in all, this book was very much worth the money I spent, and the time I took to listen to it. I had a very hard time putting this one down. I was entirely riveted.

  • When Demons Walk

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Patricia Briggs
    • Narrated By Jennifer James Bradshaw
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson series (Frost Burned, Night Broken) and the Alpha and Omega novels (Fair Game, Dead Heat) Sham had spent most of her young life as a sorceress and thief, stealing from Southwood’s nobility to survive. Now she must face the greatest test of her skills…

Ariel says: "Great book, but not about Rialla..."
"Great book, but not about Rialla..."

This was a great book, but it wasn't about Rialla. Rialla wasn't even in this book. I was greatly disappointed when I first started this book, expecting Rialla. Only to be surprised, when it started talking about a thief named Sham. The book is still great, but because of the description I was extremely disappointed.

  • Dragon's Time: A Dragonriders of Pern Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Anne McCaffrey, Todd McCaffrey
    • Narrated By Emily Durante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For the first time in more than three years, best-selling authors Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey have teamed up again to do what they do best: add another chapter to the Dragonriders of Pern. Even though Lorana cured the plague that was killing the dragons of Pern, sacrificing her queen dragon in the process, the effects of the disease were so devastating that there are no longer enough dragons available to fight the fall of deadly Thread. And as the situation grows more dire, a pregnant Lorana decides that she must take drastic steps in the quest for help.

    Josie says: "Too confusing!"
    "Very depressing..."

This story was overly depressing, and used the Time Travel far too much. Honestly, this book was needlessly depressing, and I don't know that I'm looking forward to the next book. I gave it a three out of five, mostly from sentimentality, but really the story probably deserves a one. The performance, though, if there was a way to give a negative amount of stars I would do it. Emily Durante is the worst narrator I've ever heard, and I've had an account for three years now. If she narrates the next book, I might just skip it despite the fact that Anne McCaffrey was my favorite author when I was younger. I wish Todd would have been more like his mother in his writings... But I suppose that was too much to hope for.

  • The Outlaw Demon Wails

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Kim Harrison
    • Narrated By Gigi Bermingham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

To save the lives of her friends, Rachel did the unthinkable: she willingly trafficked in forbidden demon magic. And now her sins are coming home to haunt her. As Rachel searches for the truth behind a terrifying murder, an even greater menace threatens, for the demon Algaliarept will stop at nothing to claim her, and the discovery of a shocking family secret throws Rachel's entire life into question.

Carol says: "Horrible Narration Take 2"
    "New narrator..."

As everyone else has said, you get used to having the same narrator for the past several books, but then this one... I had to force myself to listen to this, and unlike the other Kim Harrison books I've never listened to this one again. I've listened to the others several times, as I greatly love the series, but Gigi Bermingham completely ruined this book for me. I was extremely disappointed.

  • Clockwork Angel: The Infernal Devices, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Cassandra Clare
    • Narrated By Jennifer Ehle
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When 16-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

    Sam says: "Fantastic book!!"
    "A great listen but..."

I greatly enjoyed this book, and can't wait for the sequel, but I had a problem with the narrator. She would mess up on people's voices, and confuse me as to who was speaking at times. Not to mention her extreme lack of emotion while she was reading. A few times, it seemed as if she'd put some emotion into the characters voices, but then she'd end in an almost dead-panned voice that made it sound rather flat and dull, and extremely annoying. If it wasn't for the narrator, I would have given it five stars.

  • The Outstretched Shadow: The Obsidian Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (30 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Mercedes Lackey, James Mallory
    • Narrated By Susan Ericksen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kellen Tavadon, son of the Arch-Mage Lycaelon, thought he knew the way the world worked. His father, leading the wise and benevolent Council of Mages, protected and guided the citizens of the Golden City of the Bells. Young Mages in training---all men, for women were unfit to practice magic---memorized the intricate details of High Magic and aspired to seats on the council.

John says: "Like 2 Different Books"

I greatly enjoyed this book. I was a little iffy about the narrator, as I'd gotten used to the one in the Enduring Flame series, but despite some of the different pronunciations, I liked her as well for the narrator. The story line was intriguing, and I'm more than ready for the next book. I want to hear more about Idalia and Jermayan, and more about Kellen and his newly found powers.

  • Living with the Dead: Women of the Otherworld, Book 9

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Kelley Armstrong
    • Narrated By Jen Taylor
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Robyn Peltier moved to Los Angeles after her young husband's sudden death. Though she's still grieving, the challenges of her new life as the PR consultant to Portia Kane - the world's most famous celebutante wannabe - can sometimes be amusing, even distracting. But when her client is gunned down in a nightclub, Robyn is suddenly on the run as the prime suspect in the murder. And as more bodies pile up around her, it seems like only Hope Adams, Robyn's best friend, and Hope's somewhat spooky boyfriend Karl are on Robyn's side. But it's not the police Hope is worried about, and the only way Hope can keep her friend alive is by letting her enter a world she's safer knowing nothing about.

    G. House Sr. says: "New Blood - Excellent Plot"
    "Good book, horrible narrator."

The book itself is good, just as I expected from Kelley Armstrong. However, the narrator was just awful. In my opinion, she made Karl sound like some old pervert, Hope sound like an annoying teenage valley girl, and Robyn sounds pretty close to Hope, giving me problems telling them apart at times. I did enjoy the book, but I was very tempted to stop listening and deleting it from my Zune simply because of the choice of narrator.

  • My Soul to Take: Soul Screamers, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Rachel Vincent
    • Narrated By Amanda Ronconi
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

    melrailey says: "Surprisingly Good"
    "Simply amazing"

This book was amazing. I listened to it while I was at work, and I actually found myself dreading breaks and lunch, and even going home simply for the excuse of listening to this book. I try to listen to books only while I'm at work so I have something to keep me sane, but I found it very hard to not just bring out my Zune at home and start listening to it once I walked in the door. I didn't regret getting this book even for a second.
