"Maisie Dobbs is the launch of a fabulous series!"
I have read and listened to almost the entire Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. What an amazing story & storyteller! This is my second time listening to this launch of a fabulous series. It was as wonderful this time as the last.
Better than Jane Marple. It's early 20th century England ... women entering the workplace post WWI AND the class struggles endemic of that era. It is just simply storytelling at it's best. This series of books is like Downton Abbey ... with richer character development. I love the way Winspear writes.
I love them all. The central character, Maisie, is perfect. But Billy & Maurice, the principle supporting players in the evolution of Maisie, are also excellent.
No ... over about 3 days.
I own 5 of the Winspear books on CD. I enjoy the Audible experience of having it all in one complete uninterrupted stream.
"Heartbreaking!"
It's been a long while since I have been so disappointed and chagrined by the ending of a story. There was not a single story line or character ending that resolved the way I would have hoped or wanted. It left me heart sick and sad. When it ended, I couldn't believe that could possibly be the end. Her other books have had a more hopeful ending. Guess this one just blindsided me.Even so, it is an AMAZING story of love, unrequited love, sacrifice, endurance, courage ... the list goes on. Not to be missed.
Have not read other books with such a completely developed love story. Others fall short of the depth in this story.
Her characterizations of women were pretty good. There are a lot of very different men in this book with lots of variations in their personalities that didn't quite translate for me in her reading of them.
Yes.
None.
"Not so much!"
I was disappointed. I have always loved Steve Martin. This truly WAS drivel.
Not likely.
The 5 minute "first listen" was the only high spot in the whole book.
"Love Maisie Dobbs!"
Yes ... I listen to my Maisie Dobbs audio programs over & over. This is my first Audible version. I've bought the CDs prior to this.
Such wonderful stories. Jacqueline Winspear has created the most wonderful cast of characters, particularly the wonderful protagonist, Maisie Dobbs. I love the whole series.
I love that I can tell who in the cast is speaking without the narration because of the excellence of her voice characterizations.
If only ...
