I bought this books based on the listeners' favorable reviews and was not disappointed. The author's strengths are characterization and the slow revelation of complications to the plot. I kept drawing different conclusions before the truth was revealed near the end--and although none of my conclusions were correct, I did not feel tricked by the author, not did the ending seemed contrived. At first, I did not like the narrator's voice, but it grew on me and in retrospect, I believe it was an appropriate choice. I was pleasantly surprised that the ending was not a neat, unrealistically happy one. Highly recommend--it will keep you engaged.

I was a bit leery of getting a New York Times bestseller--afraid of commercial rather than literary fiction--but this novel is both--well written + great plot. The narrator is quite talented and rarely strays from the character she is portraying; the story is engaging and nicely uplifting without being sappy. Definitely a good audio pick!

Margaret Atwood is always great and this book is characteristic of her sensuously detailed style. Complex and ambiguous, but not confusing, "Alias Grace" intrigues until its disappointing, too neat, ending. Where is Atwood's ambiguity when it counts the most? The narrator was fantastic, giving each character a different voice. I was expecialy delighted with her rendition of Grace's subtle Irish brogue. The only other disappointment was that this book is abridged. Highly recommended.
