This is definitely one of those "Like the movie, love the book" type books. It is an easy listen, well read and well written. The story is easy to follow and the characters are easy to imagine... although while listening I couldn't get the original music to the 1950's movie out of my head.
I have never come across a John Grisham novel that I don't like, and this book is no exception! Well written, well narrated, guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
If you have ever seen the movie by the same name, get ready for an even more entertaining book. I loved the details given about the town and the people that were not revealed in the film.
While the plot line is somewhat predictable, the story did have several twists and was still a great listen.
I just don't understand how John Grisham can keep getting me hooked! I almost couldn't stop listening to this one!
If you like adventure books, you will love this one. In my opinion, this is by far the best book Jules Verne ever wrote. You will LOVE the twist at the end!
This book definitely makes you think.... and makes you reach for a bottle of hand sanitizer.
GREAT for a non-fiction book! I never knew there were so many things that could be done to or for a body after a person passes on. The author takes an informative and at times lighthearted approach to the subject matter, and makes the whole ordeal very entertaining and fun. You find yourself thinking "Hmmm... maybe i'll have that done once i'm gone."
The timing and flow of this novel is much different than other Grisham novels I have listened to. Most of Grisham's novels are focused around a single event, taking up a fairly short period of time, while this one spans a good decade or two. It wasn't easy to adjust to at first, and i kept thinking "OK? Where is this leading to?" But it all ties together very well. While this book isn't one of the greatest books ever written, it is a very good book, well worth the reading (or listening to!)
Honestly, I did not think I was going to like this one. Period novels usually just aren't my thing, but I loved it! The book is extremely well written, the characters are likable and easy to relate to, the storyline flows smoothly, there is just enough drama to keep it interesting without sounding like a dime store novel and it has a good ending. What else do you need in a gay romance novel set in the near past?
The main thing I liked about this book is that fact that it was not preachy. It simply gave the facts in an entertaining and informative way. And the facts that are presented, will scare the heck out of you.
