"Great Story!"
This was a great story. Just when I thought I'd figured it out- the tables turned and that suspect was eliminated. I bought the book to keep me occupied during long runs- and it was perfect! I couldn't stop listening to it. The ending was great too- that is all I will say to avoid spoilers.
The narration was also great, I enjoyed the use of different voices to represent the different characters.
I would highly recommend this book.
"Unique Storyline"
Based upon the previous recommendations, I decided to go ahead and download this book. At the beginning, I couldn't wait to listen to it the next time I had the chance. I was so excited to see how these stories were going to intertwine. As the book went on, though, I found my mind wandering as I listened. I would drift in and out but found I still would know what was happening.
To me, it seemed like the last few chapters were just the author trying to get the story over with. After the beauty and intrigue of the start of the story, I thought the end was kind of a let down.
I thoroughly enjoyed Eduardo Ballerini's reading of the story and felt that it added a lot, especially in the Italian parts. Had I been reading this book on my own, those parts would have lacked the authenticity and feeling that Mr Ballerini was able to deliver.
"A different direction for Dexter"
I read the other mediocre reviews for this title and was hesitant to use a credit on it. However since I had already started the series, curiosity got the best of me and I decided to go for it. I'm actually really glad that I did. I preferred Nick Landrum's narration over Jeff Lindsay's. He didn't really try to do different voices for each character, which I found distracting in the previous books. His speech was different enough that you understood who was talking but not over the top.
As far as the story goes, it was quite different than the books and of course the show. However I thought it was incredibly interesting and I couldn't wait until the next chance I had to listen. I would highly recommend this title!
"Dearly Devoted Dexter"
I thought this was a great book! It was not the same as season 2 of Dexter, if you've seen it on TV. I got wrapped up in it quickly and found it hard to stop listening. I'm undecided on Jeff Lindsay's performance, though. I found his need to have a different voice for each character somewhat distracting. I also think that part of my indecision stems from the fact that I was a fan of the show first, and so it's hard to not want to hear Michael C Hall voicing Dexter (but I realize this is a personal hangup).
Anyway- I am really enjoying the Dexter book series as much as the show, and from here I couldn't wait to get book 3!
"I love the show, like the book"
I got this book because I was about to embark on a long run and needed something mindless to listen to. Since I'd already seen Season 1, I thought this would be a good choice. It was! It was quite similar to the show as one would expect, since the show was based upon the book, however the end was not at all the same. I've seen all of the seasons on TV, but I am still left wanting to listen to the next book.
I was not expecting that to happen one bit, so I'm pleasantly surprised. If you liked the show, you'll like the book!
