When the Romans conquer Britain, Lhiannon fights them, while Boudica is married to a king who has surrendered. Theirs is a great love story, but when he dies, the Romans brutalize her and her daughters.

I really looked forward to listening to this book, but after 3 long boring hours, I had to stop and delete. My mind wandered as it went on and on. And the narrator's voice was really irritating to me. Sorry I wasted a credit.

Dubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazine, George R. R. Martin has earned international acclaim for his monumental cycle of epic fantasy. Now the number-one New York Times best-selling author delivers the fifth book in his spellbinding landmark series - as both familiar faces and surprising new forces vie for a foothold in a fragmented empire.

Before listing to DwD I listened to all 4 other books first since it had been so long. I was very pleased with DwD but not too thrilled with Roy's reading. Actually I like John Lee much better. I agree with the others that Roy changed his characterization for Dany and Melasandre and it was very disconcerting. And he changed the pronunciation of some names. In fact, all of his women's voices are bad. However, the story is so good you get where you don't care. Dany and Arya are my favorite characters and I really didn't get enough of them. I hope we don't have to wait years for the next installment. I want to know what happens to everyone!!!

In his latest innovative novel, the award-winning author evokes the dazzling Tang Dynasty of 8th-century China in a story of honor and power. Inspired by the glory and power of Tang dynasty China, Guy Gavriel Kay has created a masterpiece. It begins simply. Shen Tai, son of an illustrious general serving the Emperor of Kitai, has spent two years honoring the memory of his late father by burying the bones of the dead from both armies at the site of one of his father's last great battles.

This was my first GGK novel and I absolutely loved it. Those reviewers who said nothing happened must have been listening to a different book. It held my interest from start to finish. It is well worth the credit.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

    "Too Much Philosophizing"
    Overall

I am still reading this book - which I am enjoying - but it is hard to beleive that criminals spend SOOOO much time philosophizing about the meaning of life, the meaning of suffering, etc. It's like the author was trying to write the great literary masterpiece of all time. It does give you lots to think about, but it has begun to wear thin for me. The actual story is very good and the narrator is absolutely one of the best I have ever heard - his accents are fantastic and you have no doubt which character is speaking. It's just hard for me to believe that hardened criminals have a profound and philosophical idea that they have to discuss every time they open their mouths.

It's George RR Martin and Robert Jordan combined. The narrator does seem a little over the top at first, as one reveiwer complained, but once you get used to it, you love it. He adds real drama to the words. I can't wait for the next installment and I hope the same narrator reads it. It's definitely worth a credit.

Isabella d'Este, daughter of the Duke of Ferrara, born into privilege and the political and artistic turbulence of Renaissance Italy, is a stunning black-eyed blonde and a precocious lover and collector of art. Worldly and ambitious, she has never envied her less attractive sister, the spirited but naive Beatrice, until, by a quirk of fate, Beatrice is betrothed to the future Duke of Milan.

Michael Allen says: "Good, but not Captivating"
    "Narrator Inappropriate"
    Overall

This is the first book from Audible in the 3 years I have been a member that I stopped listening because of the narrator. I gave the book 3 stars because I really don't know if it's any good. This is the same narrator that read The Nannie Diaries, which I liked and felt she did a good job. But she is just too American and contemporary sounding to read a historical novel for my taste. Her voice was extremely distracting to me - and I gave it a fair shot but decided to listen to something more exciting. Just listen before you buy.

Armed only with a frying pan and her common sense, Tiffany Aching, a young witch-to-be, is all that stands between the monsters of Fairyland and the warm, green Chalk country that is her home. Forced into Fairyland to seek her kidnapped brother, Tiffany allies herself with the Chalk's local Nac Mac Feegle, aka the Wee Free Men, a clan of sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men who are as fierce as they are funny.

I am a huge Terry Prachett fan and finding his books in audio was truly exciting! To me, Stephen Briggs is a far better narrator than Nigel Planner (Nigel is too juicy)and he brings each character to life. This book, part of the witches series (which is my favorite)is very entertaining and funny. You won't be disappointed.

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of. Now, the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages.

When their village is attacked by trollocs, monsters thought to be only legends, three young men, Rand, Matt, and Perrin, flee in the company of the Lady Moiraine, a sinister visitor of unsuspected powers. Thus begins an epic adventure set in a world of wonders and horror, where what was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

    Overall

I don't read a lot of books in this genre, but I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. At first I was put off by the narrator's voice and the book seemed a little slow. But once the action started, I WAS HOOKED!. It's an exciting, entertaining story. Listening to it I can visualize the scenes it describes and can't wait to find out what happens next. I have now "read" this one and the 2nd one in the series and am eager to start the 3rd.
