  • Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Christopher Moore
    • Narrated By Susan Bennett

A striking red-head, 20-something Jody is attacked and transformed into a vampire while walking home one night in downtown San Francisco. Befriending 19-year-old Tommy, Jody tries to understand her new undead life, but trouble finds her when the cops start suspecting Tommy of being a local bloodsucking serial killer.

    SHEILA says: "Bloodsucking FUN!"
    "Funny, fast listen, fabulous narrator"

This is my first Christopher Moore audiobook although I've read Lamb and Stupidest Angel. Susan's Bennett's narration makes a C. Moore book all the more enjoyable. I had just finished listening to Twilight, recommended by my "adult" daughter, and though it a complete waste of time for any adult. Blood Sucking Fiends, while not high brow literature, was a much better use of my credits! Go ahead, just get it! Then move right on to "You Suck".

  • Twilight: The Twilight Saga, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Stephenie Meyer
    • Narrated By Ilyana Kadushin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

    Mitch says: "My Not-So-Guilty Pleasure"
"If you are and adult DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!"

My daughter convinced me that this was a worthwhile read. I struggled to get through it! If you take out all the time the main character spends describing her vampire boyfriend's physical attributes the book would be one third the length! Also, for the first three quarters any time spent on dialogue is the same conversation over and over... "you should fear me!" AAGGGHHH! A little action at the end goes nowhere in making up for hours of adolescent rambling. I've read more plot and character development in a Babysitter's Club book! Remember those? Yeah, I know what you're thinking. We were 10 when we read those!!!! If you're an adult, don't waste your time with these books. The author owns a thesaurus. Big deal. Sorry oldest daughter.... no sale.

  • Cell: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Campbell Scott

The cause of the devastation is a phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse, and the delivery method is a cell phone. Everyone's cell phone. Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization's darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve.

"Personal Billboards at Best and Boring at Worst"

I had told myself I wasn't going to waste my money on any more Stephen King audiobooks after investing so much time into the Dark Tower series only to be monumentally let down by one of the most anti-climactic endings in literary history followed closely by the snooze fest that was Duma Key. I guess I'm a slow learner but I've got it now. Cell just proves that King doesn't have an original idea left, just respouted gore. To make matters worse, by the time you've reached the end of Chapter three you know the author's stand on gun control, abortion, religion, partisan politics, etc. whether you want to know or not and whether it contributes to the narrative or not. FINALLY, I'm done!

  • Bleachers

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By John Grisham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

High school all-American Neely Crenshaw was the best quarterback to play for the Messina Spartans. 15 years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into a football dynasty. Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whether they love Eddie Rake – or hate him.

    Patti says: "Great listen!"

I'm amazed at the people reviewing this book. They either love it or they hate it. Dont' get me wrong, I'm a Grisham fan but I must agree with the reviewers who found this the most boring of his books, in terms of writing, narrating, plot (or lack of), etc. I think I fell asleep just about every time I listened and had to back up each time I started listening again just to see what was going on. Only to find that it was STILL a bunch of guys sitting on bleachers talking about their abusive ex-football coach. Same theme rehashed and rehashed with narration by the author that made it impossible to distinguish one character from another. Grisham must have owed his publishers a book and ran out of orginal ideas, but I was starting to suspect that a couple Grisham's ago! There will never be another Firm or Rainmaker, quite obviously, as this author appears to be tapped out. And that's disappointing because I feel I've been one of his most avid fans!
