"A Decent Read"
I have never read the print version.
I really liked the fact that the female character was not cookie cutter and she had children. That is so much more realistic to life today. So it became a blended family, which was a nice touch.
I almost feel like her voices were confusing on who was the man and who was the woman. She had this weird raspy voice going on and the male character's voice was strange. He sounded like he could have been a character on Sesame Street, like a big weird monster muppet. Or better yet Count Dracula! And the woman voice was very strong, deep, stern. In my opinion, the woman sounded like an older woman nearing her 50s instead of a 30 year old young mother. I mean Anne's performance wasn't absolutely awful but it did not have a nice flow where I felt I could get lost in the book.
I don't think so. I listened to the book while at work and cooking dinner. It wasn't that I couldn't put it down but more so that I had bought the book. So....
As I said, it is not an awful read. Its okay...it just wasn't as good as I was expecting. I definitely wouldn't pay full price for this.
"I LOVE William!!!!"
Ok, listen up people. I was very eager to write this review. This book is awesome. There is enough action, adventure, and romance for everyone!
I want to point out that in book 1 William's character seemed stalkerish, weird, creepy, desperate and whiny. He kind of sounded like a real wimp. Well let me tell you...William is none of those things. William is awesome! Manly, strong, tough, sensitive, humorous and lets not forget handsome! I enjoyed this book even more than book 1, because while I loved Declan I just think William is more realistic and did I say awesome? LOL. I loved the connection with Sirese (spelling?) and with her whole family. I tell you I got nervous everytime there was a new fight, just hoping none of my favorite characters got hurt. I am going to go ahead and admit I got teary eyed a time or two.
This book definitely kept my attention and I was actually sad it ended. The good thing is that every book in the series is connected so you kind of get to glimpse the characters from another's point of view.
The narration, characters, and story are great. You cannot and will not go wrong purchasing this book whether it is on sale or full price! You definitely should have this in your collection!
"Um yeahyah!"
Hilarious. Exciting. Passionate.
Do I have to pick just one? I don't know possibly the banter between Bones and Mencares...or maybe Vlad...Oh I don't know. It was all memorable lol.
What don't I like? Tavia is creepily awesome. I tell you it is crazy how well she does these different voices. Men actually sound like men and I tell you the woman is an actress. Love her!
Darkeness never felt so good.....
I really enjoyed this book much better than book 1 with the Spade and Denise story. I found myself smiling and laughing frequently. Yes, I will agree with other reviewers in that it was a little strange to see Mencares in such a sexy way, but he pulled it off lol. This is a must read for Jeaniene Frost fans!
"A keeper!"
Never read the print version.
Of course. This husband/wife team is awesome. They constantly come up with good ideas and have quite an imagination. I am never bored when I read fo them.
Oooh I don't know on this one. Renee is pretty awesome at every voice so I don't think it is fair to just name one.
The Edge....where nothing is as it should be? (I had a real hard time coming up with that this time lol)
This is a good book. I would not hesitate to recommend it mostly because the second book in the series Bayou Moon is so awesome and you kinda need to read the first to get to the second. Reading a book from Ilona Andrews is always interesting and this book holds true.
"Good....just not great....Yes, its true."
I like that this continues to tie in to Cat and Bones' story but I detest the fact Denise was involved. She is a bit of a whiny, wimpy, t-terrible heroine. Sorry but the other reviewers had this right.
The most interesting was learning about Spade's history and life. This book gave us the opportunity to learn about Spade the man vs Spade the friend from the Cat and Bones stories. However, Denise has to be the most uninteresting character I have ever heard from Jeaniene.
I have listened to many of Tavia's performances and as always she was spot on. However, no matter how hard she tried she could not make this an amazing story.
Yes. It made me make sure I read the summaries before I purchase anything with Denise's character in it (since I read a lot of Jeaniene Frost novels).
Ok so don't take this the wrong way. While this was not my favorite book of Mrs. Frost's, it is still better than a lot of other books I have read/heard. If you are new to this author, please do not be thrown off by my review. This is just simply my opinion of this work and it does not hold true to every other story I have read of hers. Actually, the Night Huntress World 2 (I believe but don't hold me to it) is awesome! And of course all of the others with Cat and Bones it it. Bottom line, check out the others and if you catch this on sale, it is worth buying. I just can't encourage you to spend top dollar on it.
"Definitely awesome!"
Absolutely! I would recommend this book because it has a great storyline, awesome characters, and kick....narration.
Well as a whole, I like how the relationship with Curran is evolving. Kate and Curran have this weird mutual respect thing going on and I think it helps to ground the book. So there is no specific boom moment for me but it is pretty memorable over all.
I have to agree with the other reviewers on the "here kitty, kitty" line. That was awesome and I literally laughed out loud!
Hmmm....I don't know...Probably "More than Magic". Yeah I like the sound of that.
I enjoyed reading/listening to this book. I love the writing. I absolutely love Kate's attitudes and Curran's alpha ego. This is definitely a good read for those that like adventure, fantasy, action and a tinch of romance.
"What were you thinking Gena???"
I have to say I am highly disappointed with this book. I expected so much more from Gena Showalter. I guess I have become so accostomed to her awesomeness with the Lords of the Underworld that I thought she could do no wrong. So here is what I found fault with:
1. The slow paced story line. All I could think was get on with it!
2. The heroine...I found Annabelle to be very immature and highly annoying. I could have used the novel with her playing a disappearing act.
3. I didn't find Zachaerel to be all that manly, and he honestly didn't have much personality. While he had a few moments where he said something funny, he was just um...lame.
4. There was absolutely no passion. It wasn't about the lack of steamy sex that her novels usually involve, but it was about the fact there was just no passion. I could barely understand why the main characters fell in love with each other.
The good? Max's narration was great as usual.
Attention new readers who have not read this author. Please do not be disturbed by my review. Gena Showalter is great, this book just happens to be an of day and hey we are all due to have one every now and then. If you are interested in paranormal romance, be sure to check out the Lords of the Underworld.
"Finally! Serious Improvement"
I am so glad that Susannah stepped up the story telling with Mirren Kincaid's story. He is truly masculine, tough as nails, yet tender. I don't know exactly how I feel about Glory's character. For the most part, I found her annoying due to that awful narration and supposedly southern drawl. While I thought she was a little sweet, I just couldn't look past this narrator.
Ok so lets get back to the narration. All of the guys sounded awful like female children. Will sounded like a whiny brat and Aiden's voice just made him sound even weaker than he appears to be from the story. And Randa's voice is cringe worthy. Amy tried and failed with that whole southern accent. My goodness, I wish they would just tell her the truth!!!!! I have not downloaded book 3 but I refuse to if I have to listen to the same narrator. Geesh did they not screen her or what?
Was the story good? Yes. But this narration just about slayed the novel. Sighing....but then again, some people seem to love it. I'm just saying, try to wait until it is more on sale than the price it already is.
"Eh....didn't really do it for me!"
I guess I don't really see what all the hype is about with this book. While the concept of having a "scathe" in Penton was interesting, there wasn't to much else that was.
I was really disappointed with the choice of narrator. She was a pain to listen to. Like there was no emotion. It kind of felt monotone. I am sure I would have enjoyed it much more had she been replaced with someone else. Also, the story just seemed to trickle by, like watching paint dry. And Aiden Murphy drove me crazy! He just gives people to many free passes. He doesn't really have a masculine, territorial leading personality.
Sighing....this just didn't do it for me.
"5 Stars All Around!!!!"
I am so sad that this book just came to an end. It is significantly better than the first book in the series, and I am so glad that I decided to give it a try because I was not impressed with book 1.
Everything about this book was great. The storyline, the humor, the tenderness, the compassion, and finally the narration! Rachel Vivette did an amazing job. Her characters all sounded different. She had emotion in her voice. The men actually sounded like men. They were a few times I had to replay a part to make sure I hadn't lost my mind. Even more so than that, she completely got Vashti's snarky comments spot on.
As far as the story goes, I really enjoyed the relationship between Vashti and Elijah. They have officially become my favorite lycan/vamp couple lol. It was just epic. I even liked the way Adrian and Lindsey were portrayed in this book as well.
I could not be more impressed. The only thing that saddens me is the length of it and the fact that I have to wait for the next segment. I have high hopes they will keep Rachel on as narrator and hope Sylvia comes with an amazing story.
Needless to say...I highly recommend this!
"Why did I buy this again?"
I'm sorry, but I am not a fan of this book and defnitely not the narration. I am NOT a fan of Therese Plummer and I mean I have tried. She makes everything sound so drained of life. Yes, that is mean and I am sorry but when I listen to her I feel like I am grinding my teeth down. What did I do to deserve this?
Trust! Don't waste your time.
