Barrie Travis is a damn good reporter stuck at a low-budget television station when the First Lady calls her—and offers her the opportunity of a lifetime. Stunned by the loss of her infant son, the president’s wife hints he may have been murdered. Barrie sets out to find the truth, fighting for the exclusive story with the help of Gray Bondurant, a mysterious former presidential aide.

After having read Sandra Brown's "Smash Cut", which I enjoyed very much, I was disappointed with this book. If the "bad guys" were senators or congressmen, or Mayors, or even high-ranked military officials, I guess it would be easier to "digest" the events happening in the book. A corrupted President of the United States, a criminal chief adviser, and a devious First Lady are a bit too much for me. Other than that, it's an easy and enjoyable read; a good narrator.

Born in shadow and kept from heads of state, there are some missions so deadly, so sensitive, that they simply don't exist. so deadly, so sensitive, that they simply don't exist. When one such mission goes horribly wrong, a wave of dramatic terrorist attacks is set in motion. Their goal: the complete and total collapse of the United States. With the CIA's intelligence abilities hobbled, former Navy SEAL Team 6 member turned covert counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath launches an audacious plan to infiltrate the terrorists' network and prevent one of the biggest threats the U.S. has ever faced.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Some times it was hard to tell the voices of the characters apart. But other than that, it was a good performance.

What was most disappointing about Brad Thor’s story?

When somebody gave a voice (literally!) to some of my own thoughts that I wasn't proud of in the first place but would have at the times of anger and despair, I felt truly ashamed of myself. The book is full of hatred, and unless you are an American born and raised blond blue-eyed christian hating all other races and religions, some of the ideas and opinions presented in this book will disgust you. I guess, after killing all arabs and moslems, Mr. Thor would want to see all Russians and Chinese dead too, along with anybody who wouldn't agree with him, just for good measure. I no longer wonder how the world could create and bear Hitlers and Stalins.

Mike Wingate had a rough childhood  —  he was abandoned at a playground at four years old and raised in foster care. Now, as an adult, Mike is finally living the life he had always wanted  —  he’s happily married to Annabel, the woman of his dreams; they have a precocious eight-year-old daughter, Kat.

What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?

İt was extremely monotone and tidious, except for dialogues. İt felt like he would burst into tears any time during the narration. İn my opinion,he would make an excellent necrology, eulogy or funeral speech deliverer.

    Any additional comments?

A good book overall, unexpected ending, original plot.

The Denver Post hails Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire mystery series as a must-read. Joining the four previous novels - all of which have been Book Sense picks - The Dark Horse puts a unique Wyoming twist on the classic British village mystery. When Longmire meets a woman jailed for her husband's death, he travels outside his usual haunts to discover the truth behind this unusual murder case.

I started the book about 15 times, and could never go beyond the first 15 minutes... Unfortunately, the "sample" button was disabled at the time of purchase, so i bought the book fully relying on the other readers' reviews... I cannot remember anybody commenting on the the narrator's voice... My recommendation would be to listen to the sample before purchasing the book, otherwise you'd waste your money, just like i did...

The narrator is slightly lisping (just a tad!). The story and the characters remind you of those in Bridget Jones books. If none of the above bothers you, you'll enjoy the book AND the narration enormously! I am adding Kate Reading (a.k.a. Johanna Ward, real name: Jennifer Mendenhall) to my favourite narrators list, after Rosalyn Landor! Buy this book if you want to take your mind away from any gloomy thoughts you may have in your head - it will work better than any yoga class! Great fun!

"Ten Things I Love About You" brings back some of the characters of "What Happens in London". I was not overly impressed with the plot, but I gave the book 4 stars, mainly because it made me laugh so many times. I love the author's sense of humour and her writing style; she's got that special way with words that makes the reading so pleasant and enjoyable. Rosalyn Landor (narrator) is outstanding, as usual, and makes you feel like you are 'watching' a movie... The story itself is not very believable but who cares if it's funny and well written! :) My favourite character is the Grandmother, who adds the "spice" to the plot. It's a shame the book contains some unnecessarily detailed erotic scenes, otherwise it would be perfect for all age groups.
All in all, a suitable book for listening while driving.

He was Grand Duke Michael, handsome brother of Tsar Nicholas II. She was the beautiful twice-divorced daughter of a Moscow lawyer. Their scandalous love affair and their runaway marriage to Vienna in 1912, trailed by the Tsar's secret police, caused uproar in Russia and was the talk of all Europe.

A must-read for history lovers! If you are familiar with the Romanoff's history, this book will make you look at a number of well-known historical facts from a different perspective. The authors do an excellent job at picturing their characters as mere mortals as far as their feelings and emotions are concerned, and yet underlining how dramatically differently their lives could have turned out should they not be burdened by their royal duties. Although I was not overly impressed with the narrator, I nonetheless enjoyed the book very much. If you like this book, I would also recommend Antonia Fraser's "Love and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King", outstandingly narrated by Rosalyn Landor.

    Overall

It takes pages and pages of boring dialogues for the author to convey whatever point she is trying to make. I guess if i were a teenager, i would have probably enjoyed this style. But i am not a teenager, and found the dialogues boring, tiresome and pointless. And talking of teenagers, I would not recommend this book to my children because of a number of very detailed and not very elegant sex scene descriptions... In conclusion, I feel like even my favourite narrator, Rosalyn Landor, who delivered her usual outstanding performance, could not save the book...

The murder of Paul Wheeler has all the elements of a blockbuster: family rivalries, incalculable wealth, and a prominent man dying in the arms of his beautiful mistress. It's a case that could earn Derek Mitchell even greater star power. When the Wheeler family approaches him about defending Creighton for his uncle's murder -- even before he's charged -- he jumps at the chance.

In a family rife with secrets - murder, hidden identities, perversions - and a depraved sense of honor, the player who wins the game may be the only one who will survive. Full of the late master's trademark elements - remarkable characters, dazzling plotting, and a page-turning narrative style - this sizzling sequel vividly captures the master's voice and irresistible magic.

    "Disaster!"
    Overall

Totally disappointing! No consistency, no logic, no follow ups on some would-be-good ideas; it seems like the author did not do his homework and demonstrated very poor knowledge of almost all of the subjects he was writing about; his vocabulary is very poor too; some ideas that could have developed into interesting plots had never been elaborated. All in all the novel gives an impression of being written by an amateur, or by a professional who's either become overly confident and lazy, or impotent... In brief, this book is a waste of time and money
