I listen to history fiction books for fun and entertainment. This true history course was as good or better than any books I have on this subject. Narrator is excellent!
Slow pace, but kept me interested enough to wait for new turn. The characters are colorful, the plot is a puzzle. As a fan of Agatha Christie, I feel like coming back for a visit after long absence from home. The main character is growing on you as time and events going on. I believe I'm hooked for the rest of the books in this series.
I am a cat lover not dogs, but this book makes Chet one of my favorite characters. His loyalty to his owner, funny way of "telling the story", good mystery and excellent narration by Jim Frangione are guarantees to put any future books in this series on my wish list.
I was glad Janet Evanovich brought one of the previous characters back. It was like meeting old nutty friend again. Lula's voice by Lorelei King is another reason to listen to this book, especially at the end of long winter day.
Lacks the humor of Miles Vorkosigan (who comes in later books), but has the strong will and courage of his mother - must read for better understanding of future events. I listened to it after already reading and listening few books about Miles. The narrator (Grover Gardner) performance makes these excellent books even better.
