I never really understood the story behind the movie. It never appealed to me until I came across this tremendous sale. Now it is one of my top listens. Christopher Simpson made the book come to life. I could listen to him read any book. His accent was exactly what I thought it should sound like. The story is an amazing story of a life in India as a young orphan grows up.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

When a friend recommended this book and told me a bit about it I was really unsure if I would like it. She assured me if I enjoyed the Twilight series I would enjoy this series. I have both read and listened to the series now. The story draws you in and you can't stop listening. I did think the voice of Carolyn McCormick a bit old for the lead character, but she has a strong sure voice and handles all the various character voices wonderfully. Definitely a great book and series to garden to this summer.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

I am so glad I chose to listen instead of read this book. The narration put me right into the story. I could run for miles listening to David LeDoux and John Randolph Jones. The title does nothing to inspire you to read the book, but the story is a cross generational story extremely well written and told. Everyone should listen to Jacob as he describes his life and how it feels to grow old. Sara Gruen nailed it.
