"What a great listen!"
Both were excellent. The language is very rich. I enjoyed going back and forth between the two versions.
I loved the way Byatt incorporated her growing up with the myths into the book. This added a whole new dimension that I wasn't expecting.
Walter was a new reader for me. Where has she been hiding? She was great. I just bought her version of Mansfield Park. I wish she had a bigger list of books. I hope to hear much more from her. She added tremendously to this audio.
"What a nice surprise"
I picked this one up on a whim and ended up loving it! Some of the musical arcana was a bit much but what a great portrayal of the dawn of a new musical epoch. The book had too many readers - at least three. I disliked transitioning between the readers but I must say I liked each after a ten minute adjustment period. Don't let this stop from you listening it.
"Interesting story"
Tough subject but an interesting story. Not for everyone though. Likely best for those whose interest run in this area.
"Excellent book read by my favorite reader"
I haven't read/heard a good travel book in some time but this is a total winner. I gained a lot of insights into China. Simon Vance provides just the right tone to the reading. Highly recommended for anyone prepping for a China trip. You won't be sorry.
"Great narrator, excellent story"
This book was excellent. IT is more or less a diary of a soldier ten years into the future after a flu pandemic and the global aftermath. The breakdown of civilization in much of the world etc. I got it on a whim and had no idea what to expect. The narrator matched up perfectly with this interesting and unfortunately plausible vision of the future. The writer has a point of view to be sure, but I don't think it would get in the way of anyone's enjoying the book. I am going to check out more works by this author, previously unknown to me.
