Recently widowed, grieving Los Angeles midwife/nurse Melinda Monroe answers a small upstate town's ad for help. Nestled amongst California's giant redwoods, quaint Virgin River is host to many quirky characters - including bar owner Jack Sheridan, who may be just the man to make Melinda smile again.

Houston mom says: "Great author if you like Nora Roberts!"
"Therese Plummer is an "A-list" narrator"
    Overall

Top-notch character portrayals, intriguing plot, first class narrator. This is an excellent "listen"

Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren’t entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London’s most eligible aristocrat.

    "Ewwww!"
    Overall

I don't think I could have imagined 2 more unlikeable characters as the central characters in this book.
Lillian Bowman is insensitive, rude, and bad-tempered (she ends up stealing brandy out of the library and getting drunk-for pete's sake). I could not empathize with her, nor stand to finish reading a story about her.

Lisa Kleypas shines in her contemporary stories -- ironically in her memorable, endearing characters.

Emma Corrigan has a long list of secrets, one of which is that she is afraid of flying. Coming back from a thoroughly ruinous sales trip to Glasgow, the plane she is on encounters some air turbulence, and she ends up spilling her guts to the handsome American sitting next to her. He gets to hear that she fibbed to get her current job and that she has never been able to satisfactorily find her G-spot. Then, the plane lands...and the American turns up in her life again. He's the CEO of her company....

    A says: "Enjoyable Chick Lit"
    "Shallow, weak characters"
    Overall

I found this book dull -- it drones on and on. The whole perspective is from one shallow, uninteresting character. Wasted credit
