In Washington, a newly elected young president faces a test that will focus the national spotlight on abortion, parental consent, backroom politics, and the battle over one woman's nomination as chief justice of the Supreme Court. It's high-stakes drama as only Richard North Patterson can present it! Browse more Patterson.

"Read it for the enjoyment of the story"
    Overall

Don't read this book for its stance on politics, only as a good story. I read for enjoyment and this book was very enjoyable. It made you think about the stance between "no abortion" and "justifiable abortion". It was a great read. I watch movies and read books for enjoyment only and don't let any of the theorizing or politicing influence my opinion of a well written script.

  • Stone Cold

Jesse Stone has a problem. Actually, several problems: dead bodies turning up, and no clues. Investigating a serial killer in an affluent suburban town is difficult, and dangerous, and with the added pressures from the media, the heat is turned up on Jesse. He's spending too much time with the bottle - and with his ex-wife - neither of which helps him, or the case. And the harder these forces push against him, the more Jesse retreats into himself, convinced that it's up to him alone to stop the killing.

Bram says: "Most dispassionate narration, predictable plot"
    "Loved the book"
    Overall

Loved the narrative. Was not put off by the "he said/she said". Jesse is a great character. A man of few words and great action. Was disappointed when I couldn't find any of Parker's books with this same character. Don't like Spencer and Hawk as much!
