Yes. I heartily enjoyed the story an found it difficult to "put down". Francis fans will not be surprised by the excellent pacing of the text.
This digital recording was clearly made from a less than prefect tape. There are many places where it speeds up and slows down. I was willing to listen to these spots because the story and reading were excellent, but it is a less than optimal listening experience.
This was the first Vorkosigan series book I read and I regretted it. Without the background of other books in the series, it is just a fun adventure. I read this one first and did not read another for about 5 years.
That said, it is a good read if you have already read The Warrior's Apprentice. It is especially good if you have also read some of the later Miles books.
First let me say that this is one of Bujold's best books. The story is satisfyingly dire, happy, thrilling, and sad. The world is convincing and the religion nicely nuanced.
Lloyd James reads all of the characters consistently and always seems to understand what is funny, what is tragic, and acts without overacting. I have listened to this book several times and always enjoy it.
Poltergeist is another great Greywalker novel that moves the story of Harper Blaine forward. I enjoyed it so much that I listened to it twice.
Mia Barron's performance is adequate. She reads female characters amazingly well, the character of Maura really came to life for me, but several of the male characters sounded whiny and inauthentic.
Although not one of the very best of the Vorkosigan books, it is a nice portrait of Miles' armsman Roic. Grover Gardner does an especially amazing job voicing Taura.
Heartily recommended for Miles fans.
The writing on this book gives a very authentically Rose and the 10th Doctor feeling. A great story. Well read by the actor who plays the doctor. I can't recommend it highly enough.
