"A surprising twist"
Not sure what to think of it at first, the author almost lost me in the last third of the book but just as I was thinking "here we go again with yet another way too predictable ending" the story spun round and got me hooked again, guessing to the very end. The narration was excellent and I'm glad I stuck with the story till its finish.
"Beautiful vacation-time book"
Easy to listen and captivating, the story switches between post-war Italy and nowadays Hollywood and follows the intertwined lives of an Italian hotel keeper, an American actress and the man who made a living manipulating with people's lives.
I read it amidst a harsh cold winter but can just imagine laying out in the sun on some beautiful beach, listening to this wonderful tale and hearing the ocean waves splash in the background.
"Gripping till the very end"
A wonderfully written and well performed book. A husband telling the story of his missing wife and the wife revealing their life in her diary. Or so it seems at first... and just then when you feel yourself choosing sides (will you be in the Amy or the Nick camp?) the story takes on an unexpected twist. What looked like a pretty straightforward story now has you guessing - how on earth will it end. So go ahead, listen and hold your breath till the very end.
"Perfectly written and narrated as well"
This was a very interesting book which I couldn't stop listening to for a minute. It gave me the creeps when I imagined someone having to spend their childhood being locked up in a tiny room but on the other hand it described the amazing courage and hope that the main character Jack and his Ma showed throughout their ordeal. I loved Ma's creativity and Jack's perspective on the world as the book is told in his voice.
"Gave me a new perspective on running"
I'm a recreational runner and completly fell for this book. It not only talks about running and its different aspects but has an intriguing story behind about a people to whom running comes as natural as breathing and about a race that celebrates just that. It even made me think about changing my running style and discovering bare foot or minimalistic running.
"An insightful tale into wisdom of aging"
A wonderfully written memoire in which the author shares her views on aging, generation gaps and what we can all learn from each other young or old. A delightful book to listen to.
"Terribly written"
This must be my first audio book that I will not finish. It's just a disaster, the way it's written, the way it's read and most of all the lousy story it is. While erotic, maybe, it gets boring right at the second chapter when you realize the words and replics keep repeating itself over and over. This is a credit I am sorry to say I really regret.
"Enchanting"
I loved this book. A delightful tale of a grand daughter who goes in search of her late grandmother's steps to find out the truth about her grand mother's origins. The story bounces back and forth between the present and the past changing characters and captivating you in more and more with each minute.
"Predictable ending but enjoyed it nevertheless"
I find Jodi Picoult's books easy and entertaining to listen to for example on the commute to work. This one was no exception, an interesting tale that held my attention to the very end although the ending gets a bit predictable in the last quarter of the book.
"Loved every second of it"
Isabel Allende is one of my favourite authors for her ability to weave beautiful stories on the background of historical facts with the spirituality of characters that is so captivating.
Island beneath the sea is a wonderful story based on the island of what is now Haiti and talks about the hard life of the slaves and the slave uprising. The narration was very good and I enjoyed the book very much.
