If hautiness, arrogance and condescension are your idea of a good read, then by all means download this book.
I was really hoping for some nutritional and lifestyle revelations that would crack the code of why Americans seem to gain weight exponentially, while supposedly Europeans, and especially the French, do not. What is contained within this book was nothing new to me. If you follow nutrition, a sound lifestyle, and general healthy habits you know everything the author says in this book already. All of the information contained can be found elsewhere - in less arrogant or territorial nutrional books. There was a huge distinction in this book "Americans do this (BAD) while the French do this (GOOD)". I found myself insulted - the implication is that American's don't know how to take care of themselves. While it's true it seems as a culture we are on salt and fat overdrive, the sweeping generalizations left a bad taste in my mouth. If you eat a lot of junk food, don't exercise, never eat your fruits and vegetables and watch a ton of tv - then read this book - there may be insights into your lifestyle that you hadn't thought of before. But if you strive for a balanced diet, read the labels on everything before you buy, and were raised by an uber-healthy mom like I was, this book is just a regurgitation of all of the information you already know.
The recipes, however, sound interesting and decadent - that is definitely a plus - if you can slow down and try to write them down while you're listening...
I was so excited to listen to this. I loved Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil -- both the book and the movie. But I should have listened to the other reviews I read about this and saved my credit. Don't waste your time.
Of note: the narrator has a very soothing voice -- I did some of my best daydreaming while it was on...
