    After two hours I had to admit defeat--the story still hadn't begun to take off. The narrator within the story (Veronica?) was not one with whom I could empathize. It might eventually have gotten better, but I don't have enough years left in my life to find out.

    I am a huge fan of Dave Robicheaux and also a fan of stories set in Louisiana. This story really presents a gut-wrenching and emotionally evocative sense of the devastation to lives and property following Hurricane Katrina. I could truly believe that every detail was as accurate as a documentary. And the story itself was, as expected from Burke, fantastic.

    I love Martin Cruz Smith and his character, Arkady Renko. But the narrator of Havana Bay was pretty terrible. His attempted Spanish accent sounded very similar to his Russian accent. And he grossly mispronounced the Spanish words contained in the text. The story itself was great.
