  • Teacher Man

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Frank McCourt
    • Narrated By Frank McCourt

Now here at last, is McCourt's long-awaited audiobook about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs, and surprises he faces in public high schools around New York City.

Mark says: "Fun, quick, well done!"
    "Insightful and fun"

It was great listening to Frank McCourt recount his memories of teaching in New York City. He is honest, insightful, and humorous. He tells his story in a blunt and humorous way. He doesn't try to make himself sound like a goody-goody teacher who was out to save the world; yet he probably made a huge impact on many students. I will look at my students with "wider eyes and a better listening heart" from now on. He is definitely a "late bloomer" as he, himself admitted in his book. I loved his previous book, Angela's Ashes; tolerated his book Tis, but I LOVED this new book of his!!!

  • The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Alexander McCall Smith
    • Narrated By Lisette Lecat

Mma "Precious" Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. At first, cases are hard to come by. But eventually, troubled people come to Precious with a variety of concerns. Potentially philandering husbands, seemingly schizophrenic doctors, and a missing boy who may have been killed by witch doctors all compel Precious to roam about in her tiny van, searching for clues.

    Gene says: "Transcends its Genre"
"Can't wait to read more in the series!"

Loved the story, loved the setting, loved the characters! The narration is wonderful and authentic. I've learned much about the Botswana area (but now, I'm curious to learn more!) I was sorry when the story ended and I look forward to downloading the sequel!

  • A Million Little Pieces

    • ABRIDGED (10 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By James Frey
    • Narrated By Oliver Wyman

By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of How to Recover.

Robert in Denver says: "Waste of time"
    "A Million Little Pieces"

Great book!!! I feel as though I lived and felt this book! The author is brutally honest in this memoir. At times, it was difficult to listen to -because of the language and the intense anger that James, the main character, feels. But, it was one of the most memorable books I've read (or listened to) in a long time. The narrator does an outstanding job "portraying" James. I can't wait to listen to the next book by James Frey!
