If you are like me, I am very hesitant to use my credits--they are like gold. I want a good return for my purchase. So, if you are at the stage where you want to read other listeners' reviews to confirm your desire to purchase this book--STOP and just hit "ADD TO CART" now. You will NOT be disappointed. This story is so well written, so rich, that I started to believe it was a true story! Honestly, I checked! This book has it all--humor, despair, hope, and an unbelievable uniqueness. You have not heard this story before, it is not a carbon copy book. It is truly something special! Plus, the narration of this book is perfect. I have listened to Jeff Woodman before and was SHOCKED to realize (later) he was the narrator. I pictured a young Indian man, not a skinny white guy. 10-stars to you, Jeff! He made the book even more magical.

I grew up reading Christopher Pike, so he has a soft spot in my heart. I should have lived in the sweet memories....this book is just horrible. It is vulgar--the use of cursing made the dialogue seem cheap. The characters where unlikable and by the end of the book, I could care less what happened. I had to made myself finish the book, hoping against hope it would redeem itself. Ugh. I wasted my time, my money, and I am pretty sure, several brain cells.

My first attempt at listening to this book failed because I was wanting a quick-paced, twist and turn "microwaved" mystery. It is not for those wanting instant gratification. If that is you, I would suggest not buying the book. However, on my second attempt, the book became just want I wanted. It is a slow, layered mystery that takes time to simmer and cook. I liked the different points of view and time periods because it added depth of understanding. I couldn't stop listening because I wanted to know the "why" as much as the characters themselves. It is a "darker" narrative, so if you want sunshine and roses, this book is not for you. If you are patient and willing to wait for characters to develop and grow and a mystery to be unraveled, then you should enjoy this book. I really found it refreshing and engaging. The narrator is top-notch as well.

I overall loved this book (if you can say you "love" about such tragic and horrific subject). I liked the way it flashed from three different perspective and from past to present. The author linked the story piece by piece and unfolded the truth before the reader's eyes. I liked this because the reader got the full, complete story even if the characters did not.

However, I hated the amount of cursing. It was horrific and bordered on wastefulness. I don't think the "f" word every-other-word was necessary and made me question the author's real ability to write. I visualized her setting there writing and thinking, "Hmm I don't know how to convey surprise, so I will just use the f-word. I don't know how to convey anger, so I will use the f-word 3 times in a row." That turned me off and kept me from giving it a higher rating.

If you are a sensitive person or can't handle a LOT of cursing, I would skip this book. If you like a good "true crime" style of story and language isn't an issue, I wouldn't pass up this book.

I am not a science fiction authority nor am I a complete novice. I think this book is good for people in the middle, like me, or new to science fiction.

I liked the overall plot, however, I think it was drown in a sea of words and information--too much information. Also, at the heart of the story is a deeply anti-religious theme, which I did not appreciate.

The narrator was hard for me to get used to, but after a while I was able to deal with it.

Overall it was not a waste of money, at times it was thought-provoking, and kept my attention. However, if you are not interested at least a little in sci-fi, don't like moderate use of bad language, or can be offended by anti-religious themes, don't get this book.

As a young white women, this book is both eye-opening and sad. I cannot believe it has only been some 45+ years since this book was set. I cannot believe people thought this way, and I would hope (if I'd been alive) I'd been on the right side of the issues. This book is wonderful, entertaining, heartfelt and heartbreaking. It's a part of our recent history....we all need reminded of. The narration is one of the best I've heard. Don't miss out on this gem.

I loved this book. So many "ghost" stories have unless fluff to make them scary, but there was no need with such a great story line. I loved the characters, the mystery, and the setting. The only negative was I wanted to know more of what happens to the characters in the future. Sequel perhaps???

I tend to get overwhelmed picking new authors and books, so many times I get a book based on the customer reviews. This was one such purchase. I got way more than my money's worth in this wonderfully complex tale. It does start out slow--but the wait is worth it. I am usually good at picking out the end of a book, but this one keep me on the edge of my seat, listening for hours and hours at a time so I could find out how the mysteries unfolded. In a world where NOT well-written, fluffy serial books are being acclaimed, I am not sure everyone will find this story's dark tale as easy of a read. It is more complex that the normal fluff that I have read lately, and for that I am grateful! This story, rich in detail and emotion, has deep secrets it will not give out easily. It is a journey the reader is taken on, and the journey is not neatly packaged in a Hollywood blockbuster style. The story is layered and revealed thus. Beautifully written, perfectly narrated, and completely original, this book is well worth the time and money.

I'm an adult and enjoyed this "teen" book. Cabot explores one of the most common desires of all teenage girls--to become instantly rich, beautiful and popular--yet without the "work!" It was a great read but I thought the ending was weak. It seemed the author ran out of ideas and just ended it. Apart from that, I would recommend it for teens and anyone wanting a good, clean, fun read.

As I listened to this book, I had mixed feelings. Even now, I am not sure how I feel about this book. Overall, the main plot concept is refreshing original. So, it's not a total waste of time. However, I feel a lot of the book focused on a lot of strange, mean and down-right weird people verses a few quality characters. After a while, I even didn't care about the so-called "heros"of the book because they were not that lovable or developed fully. The character development was unbalanced, and the plot had too many needless subplots that were not resolved well or at all. Overall, I felt the book left the reader hanging in the end (in an unsatisfying way). My ranking is more a 2.5 than the 3.
