Read the book years ago and decided I just had to hear it now. I fell in love all over again with this book. Reading well over 100 books a year, I can say with out a doubt this is my favorite book. That stated, I have not read any other book he's written. Couldn't find any at others at our library! Now that I am a member I will read all of his works. Mr. Courtney weaves a beautiful story that sends your soul on a glorious flight that you pray never ends. But when it does, he leaves you in awe. Best buy you'll ever make, and the best listen.
JK Rowling writes a tight, not an extra word in it, story. Striker the lead character is a disabled vet who would rather do it the hard way than sacrifice his pride. In fact, I wasn't sure I liked him for the first 20 minutes. Striker is a P.I. who is on very hard times. His love is gone and he's on his last nickel. But don't count him out, he wasn't in special forces for nuthin'! Do give this story a try. Wish this was a series.
Yes, I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like to see the plot twists and endings far too soon. Mr. Gaiman writes fairy tales for adults. But no kissy- kissy love story here. And you will not miss it one bit. He'll ask you to believe the unbelievable without reservation and preamble. Before you realize it the hook has been set and your being reeled in by this unlikely story. Fighting it is futile. Just pray for mercy.
Don't know of another book like this. Why try to pretend it's like something else. It's just another Neil Gaimen ride at the amusement park.
That's a tough question to answer. Mr. Guidall is a treasure to listen to always. He's like a favorite Uncle who you can't wait to tell a story because he will paint it well with the inflections in his voice. He make it seem sooooo easy.
I almost never like the start of Mr. Gaimen's books. He takes sometime to set the scene, and while he's doing it, I question if this book is finally the rotten egg in the line of perfectly great stories. Not all he stories can be great, right? By the end I love the book and know I will end up remembering his stories very well. Not every book is worth remembering -his are! So, always with trepidation I will read another of his and start the whole process of "was this choice of book a good one". But so far, Mr. Gaimen, you do not have a rotten egg of a story in the bunch.
What the heck, give the story a try. Who wants a mystery by the numbers anyway?
I enjoy how the author took everyday happenings and add a twist. Who wouldn't want to live in a building that had such characters as tenets? Or a odd apartments that you couldn't explain? This author took me to another place, well he really took me to more than one place and made me wish I was in the middle of the plot. Not many authors can do it as well as this one. Not a big fan of Sy-fy? Don't worry, you'll still enjoy the vacation from your ho hum existence.
This was written for a younger reader and it shows. And if you decide that a fun story is beneath your age, I undoubtedly will feel sorry for you and all the fun you'll miss. For me this book is like a vacation that you really enjoy but did nothing but sit in the sun and giggle with your sisters.
The characters, the story and the reader is perfect. Eoin has given you a break for reality that everyone needs now and again. The unbelievable other world he paints make you wish it was true. Wouldn't be fun to be a fairy or at least have elf for a friend?
Buy this recording and you'll surely make your kid's listen too.
Laura Hillenbrand tell this story of human triumph that will make your heart soar.
Why do some people survive against all odds while others crumble at the slightest hard times? In this lovely true story you get to know this bigger than life man from infant to elderly man and marvel at the gift the lord gave in at birth. As a child it seem as if this gift was from the devil himself until he harnessed the power it gave him.
Do treat yourself to a book that will give you reason to cheer. I was worried that it would be too sad of a story to finish but I was so wrong.
I like all of the Artemis Fowl books and this is no exception. Eoin keeps it funny and almost real. Almost. Warning: Wishing you were a fairy or having magical powers can take hold of you after one book in this series.
This series is a nice vacation from serious adult books.
The story captures you in five minutes with Rosenfelt's wisenheimer style. He writes the way my family talks so I was intrigued from the get go. But my immediate family was not involved with the law, well not on the right side anyway. This story is about a man and his dog. He's a lawyer that get a case that turns his world sideways.
The story is fast with great turns and twists that you wish you could buy another ticket to ride this roller coster. Turns out you can. Get another book by the author, duh!
This family is real and so screwed up. I enjoyed myself while I got lost in the characters. Yes, you can see so much coming in the plot but a lot will be surprised too. Give this book a spin and you too will be glad you don't have to sit shiva.
I do like to read what the teenagers in my family are reading so we can discuss it. I found myself really enjoying the book and wishing other would keep up so we could laugh or scream about the twists and turns in the plot.
Some young adult stories are just too far out for my taste. But this a good story that is not over blown with love sickness or childish attempts at tension that I find in other young adult books. Can't wait to read the others.
This book did not have me on the edge of my seat. I felt the story took to long to develop for my taste. However, I do not find it a waste of time to have read/ listened. Rather a book I would have picked up to cure absolute boredom.
By the end of the story Erin has developed the characters and the story but not my undivided interest. But the original idea of the story is a good one. I hope you enjoy the book if you decide to purchase. And, it would seem, my taste or lack of it, for this story is in the minority.
