When Alex Stone was five years old, his father bought him a magic kit - a gift that would spark a lifelong love. Years later, while living in New York City, he discovered a vibrant underground magic scene exploding with creativity and innovation and populated by a fascinating cast of characters: from his gruff mentor, who holds court in the back of a rundown pizza shop, to one of the world's greatest card cheats, who also happens to be blind. Captivated, he plunged headlong into this mysterious world.

Would you try another book from Alex Stone and/or Alex Stone?

I did not care at all for this book. The author seemed to be doing a complete turnaround from what I thought the book would be. I thought it would contain learning about magic and the history of magic. Boy did I think wrong.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fooling Houdini?

I could not even finish it--I thought it was that bad. But different strokes for different folks maybe someone out there who loves math etc will like it.

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

What would have made Until Tuesday better?

Mr. Montlvan should have told the truth about the VA. He trashes the very people who determined medically what his condition was. If he is like the other veterans that I work with every day, he is getting a pension, free meds and probably his education was paid for by the VA.

I once ask a vet why he had such a cute king charles cavalier spaniel that he was calling his service dog--he looked me straight in the eye and said the dog is a chick magnet.

I think that is exactly what Mr. Montalvan uses Tuesday for--to attract attention. I am not saying that service dogs are not of benefit to veterans and that the wounded warrior program is not a great program that benefits the veterans--I am only saying that Tuesday is in the role of attention getter which is what Mr. Montalvan is really wanting.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    nothing by this author

How could the performance have been better?

Mr. Montalvan could have reserved his bitterness about the US government, after all he never said he turned down the VA benefits promised to the armed service members for serving our country--if he is so all fired happy about being a cuban then return the VA benefits and go back to Cuba.

What character would you cut from Until Tuesday?

    Mr. Montalvan

    Any additional comments?

Yes, Richard Pimentolo did not work so hard on the ADA for veterans to have a whiner like this author complaining. America Mr. Montalvan love it or leave--but if you go leave Tuesday he is the best part of your story!

This is the worst bunch of lies I have ever read--If you folk want to find out about real service dogs--talk to Freedom Service dogs in Colorado--they will show you how and why service dogs are needed by the veterans-and trust me they won't complain while doing it!

Sharron Kahn Luttrell was still mourning the death of her beloved German shepherd when she decided to volunteer as a weekend puppy raiser .But Daisy, an adorable bundle of fur the color of buttered toast, captures Sharron's heart the moment she's handed the leash. And while Keith, the convict who cares for and trains Daisy during the week, seems intimidating at first, he is soft-spoken and polite. What's more, Daisy's appearance on Fridays, freshly scrubbed and sweet smelling, seems further evidence of his gentle nature.

What made the experience of listening to Weekends with Daisy the most enjoyable?

I liked the story. The ups and downs of training a service dog was fascinating.

What other book might you compare Weekends with Daisy to and why?

A dog named Boo--both books were about overcoming obstacles that are associated with disabilities. But Daisy was a little more of a feel good book about all kinds of people than the Boo book was.

Which character – as performed by Jane Jacobs – was your favorite?

    Sharon

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

no it has too much information that I considered superfluous

How could the performance have been better?

this book needs to be edited and all material that really doesn't pertain directly to the story needs to be taken out.

Did Candy Bombers inspire you to do anything?

yes put this down as one book I don't want to listen to again

    Any additional comments?

there were so many different tangents going in directions that it was hard to concentrate on--don't get me wrong I love history but too many people just clog up the story--sigh it could have been so good

When a nativity display on public property is torched by a former US Senator, the media spotlight falls on the forgotten small town of Leonard, Texas, and the new pastor of its only church - Adam Wells. Emboldened by the prospect of leading his tiny congregation in a nationally-televised, first amendment debate that he considers to be a “fight for the heart and soul of America,” Pastor Wells determines not to let anything or anyone, including his wife and his rebellious sixteen-year old daughter, stand in his way.

Where does By Reason of Insanity rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoyed this book -the twists the story took made it so interesting and well worth listening to ...I think this book is in the upper third of the books I listen to. However, I am such an eclectic reader that it is hard to rank books--I just like so many genres.

What other book might you compare By Reason of Insanity to and why?

This is a legal seat belt suspense (sorry Brandilyn Collins)-a little of Brandilyn Collins, a little of Nora Roberts and a lot of twists and turns.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stecheschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I liked his voice

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

I might have to listen again just to verify what I thought the ending was--I usually listen to my audio downloads at work while I am auditing a large bill for the VA --sometimes I need to go back and listen to certain sections of a book because I might have been too wrapped up in my work then I have to say huh? did I hear what I thought I heard?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

this is a book about finding what you really want in life. It teaches a lesson that what you think you want and what you really want are sometimes different things. It is a cute funny story reminiscent of the Herriot veterinary books only told with people.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carolyn Jourdan the author. I like the way she changed from being all involved in the phony crowd she worked with to becoming a person involved with people and their feeling.

Have you listened to any of Kate Forbes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

But one afternoon in December all his ambitions came to an abrupt end when he crashed his plane doing a particularly difficult and illegal aerobatic trick. His injuries were so bad that surgeons were forced to amputate both his legs to save his life.

If you could sum up Reach for the Sky in three words, what would they be?

    good like Unbroken

What was one of the most memorable moments of Reach for the Sky?

When Baeder kept trying to escape and the Germans took his artificial legs.

What does Robert Hardy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

At first the narrator was difficult to understand but once you get into the story where the flying occurs-this book really takes off.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I always take a book to listen to at work while I am doing data entry, at the end of the day when the story wasn't finished I was unsure if I could wait until the next day.

    Any additional comments?

I couldn't stop telling my co-workers about this book. It has been a long time since I read a book that had me laughing and talking about it when I finished.

Yes, I had first listened to Mrs. Kennedy and me which led me to this book. I will probably visit this book again in the future. I usually take a book to work to listen to on my job, so sometimes I miss things in the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of After Camelot?

I think the will power Ethel Kennedy displayed while awaiting word on JFK jr. She was certain he was coming to the wedding of her daughter and would not except that he would not make it.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Jackie-- I thought I would cry when I heard the words Jackie said after Bobby's death--oh my God they are shooting Kennedys.
