Yes, the story is good, but just too much description of every last detail in every scene... As since his 2nd book, Clancy just never does cut enough out...
Someone looking for a long story, but doesn’t care if the story works that well
Not nearly as tightly constructed as previous books. Plus, hard that none of the other familiar Clancy characters make it in the book at all - one tiny cameo is all I saw.
Yes! Bonhoeffer's life was so inspirational and Metaxas writes such a compelling narrative. Hillgartner's performance is great - his understated use of different voices and accents makes it come alive. You find yourself expecting that the plots to assassinate Hitler will succeed and Bonhoeffer will survive (though you know they won't).
Without a doubt, Bonhoeffer. Someone who was so in touch with truth and standing up for what he knew was right without fear. A true hero.
As said above, his use of understated accents and voices pull you along. They aren't dramatic in a way that would lead the performance to overshadow the story. It's just as close to a perfect narration as I've heard in a while.
The final few chapters are terrible as you hear first-hand accounts of Nazi atrocities and Metaxas shows the man that Bonhoeffer was, in particular with his fiancé. It's all the more poignant knowing what is going to happen and that their love seemed so pure.
