Not to do better to wrap the story up but to expect someone to buy a yet published sequel in order to find out what happens is unconscionable and comes across as mercenary by the author. After spending so much time vested in listening to the story, one expects more. All of the threads were outstanding for a reader to wait for publication of another book.
One of two things. He could have wrapped up at least most of the threads in one book and not end the story with a statement that the reader should not to worry, because the author is committed to writing the ending in another book. I understand teasers to an audience to but additional books in a series, but this went way beyond that because nothing was wrapped up. Alternatively, the author could have published two volumes making it clear from the outset that the ending would not be found until the end of volume 2 so people could choose whether or not to buy two books to get the complete story.
Conveys characters well
Some modest suspense but generally predictable
This is 10 and a half hours of your life that you will never get back. Stupid plot, juvenile writing and all together a vast waste of time. Nothing interesting, intriguing or redeeming about this book. I rarely write a review but this was such a wasteland of fiction that it created an incentive to write to help you out if you are even considering this book --don't bother, anyhting else would be better.
