  • Cross My Heart

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By James Patterson
    • Narrated By Michael Boatman, Tom Wopat
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Detective Alex Cross is a family man at heart--nothing matters more to him than his children, his grandmother, and his wife Bree. His love of his family is his anchor, and gives him the strength to confront evil in his work. One man knows this deeply, and uses Alex's strength as a weapon against him in the most unsettling and unexpected novel of James Patterson's career.

What would have made Cross My Heart better?

Not to do better to wrap the story up but to expect someone to buy a yet published sequel in order to find out what happens is unconscionable and comes across as mercenary by the author. After spending so much time vested in listening to the story, one expects more. All of the threads were outstanding for a reader to wait for publication of another book.

What could James Patterson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

One of two things. He could have wrapped up at least most of the threads in one book and not end the story with a statement that the reader should not to worry, because the author is committed to writing the ending in another book. I understand teasers to an audience to but additional books in a series, but this went way beyond that because nothing was wrapped up. Alternatively, the author could have published two volumes making it clear from the outset that the ending would not be found until the end of volume 2 so people could choose whether or not to buy two books to get the complete story.

What three words best describe Michael Boatman and Tom Wopat ’s performance?

    Conveys characters well

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Some modest suspense but generally predictable

  • The Shimmer

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By David Morrell
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante

When a high-speed chase goes terribly wrong, Santa Fe police officer Dan Page watches in horror as a car and gas tanker explode into flames. Torn with guilt that he may be responsible, Page returns home to discover that his wife, Tori, has disappeared. Frantic, Page follows her trail to Rostov, a remote town in Texas famous for a massive astronomical observatory, a long-abandoned military base, and unexplained nighttime phenomena that drew onlookers from every corner of the globe.

    "Dont Bother"

This is 10 and a half hours of your life that you will never get back. Stupid plot, juvenile writing and all together a vast waste of time. Nothing interesting, intriguing or redeeming about this book. I rarely write a review but this was such a wasteland of fiction that it created an incentive to write to help you out if you are even considering this book --don't bother, anyhting else would be better.
