I lived in Hungry and Romania... this is a wonderful book with good history too
This book will only suit those prone to self-pity.... It's shallow and easy....
I can't believe this book was a NYT bestseller. Very confusing. The characters lack depth. It's all plot.
I fell sucker to this book's popularity. So many people love it. I have no idea why. There is something a little charming about the author, his charm and personality shines through a bit in the language, but the characters are not three dimensional.....
This book is amazing. I couldn't stop listening. It's a good combination of story and history. The author brings it all alive.
I couldn't stop listening to it. Great purchase for a long drive or for working out. I am curious to know, though, why the New York Times book review called Franzen a genius. It's true that it gives life to recent events and to characters we are familiar with-- and yet, I left the book feeling empty.
Feels lazy at times and over-reaching. It tries too hard. Meth is bad. Meth is here to stay, but books have a responsibility to tell stories in engaging ways-- at least a book of this type.
