"Best of the Virgil Flowers series"
Easily the most driven and interesting of the Virgil Flowers books. As good as the Prey books with Lucas Davenport!
"Leonard at his best"
Wild fun, funny dialogue, changing allegiances and a very unusual and clever plot line distinguish this captivating crime story. Fascionating characters and a journey into a world of fascinating characters. Compelling.
"One of Picoult's best"
Moral dilemnas, the most difficult of ethical considerations are embraced in this tale of a Nazi who wants to die at the hands of the granddaughter of one of his victims. Fascinating characters, incredible story within a story, this is a journey for the listener into the past most have forgotten. Visceral and heart wrenching this amazingly well told story is one of Picoult''s most interesting and absorbing books.
"Real noir"
Entertaining well told crime story with interesting details of a heist for those who enjoy crime trivia and good background research. Two stories in different times told in a back and forth sequence which is well developed, adds to the tension and is not confusing. especially as they relate to each other. Excellent debut by this author. Am eager for the next publication.
"One of the year's best literary suspense mysteries"
Thomas H. Cook is consistently exceptional. As a mystery writer he is always well reviewed, both by the book trade magazines and by the reader/listerners. The Crime of Julian Wells is an example of the fisherman offering delicious bait and then reeling in the fish-only we are the fish. He is a master storyteller and knows exactly how to keep the Pied Piper thing going for the listener. What starts as a simple story evolves into a literate weave of compelling twists and turns with captivating characters. If you like your stories very dark but very close to reality grab this listen immediately.....
"Excellent conclusion to a wonderful series"
Even though I suggest earlier MacDonald books to savor this master at work The Lonlely Silver Rain can be appreciated by itself. MacDonald is a true master of the crime novel and what is remarkable about him is that there is a timelessness about him. With the exception of the value of the dollar and makes and models of cars the same stories could easily be told in the present day. A master of suspense and an exceptional storyteller this is MacDonald at his finest.
"One of the best in the series"
I've listened to or read all the books in the Sandford Prey series. This is certainly one of his finest. Combination thriller and police procedural the plot couldn't be better and the characters more interesting and diverse. That Sandford can bring such quality after all the books in the Davenport stories is a testament to his incredible writing. There is a momentum of tension and suspense that is so compelling that I dare you to listen to this one and then not buy and download Easy Prey. Richard Ferrone is THE perfect choice for the narrator. Very compelling
"Grateful to audible and you will be too!!"
John D. MacDonald was one of our best crime story writers. Bright Orange for the Shroud is one of the best in the McGee series. It has it all-a classic revenge story, a villain that is worth the listen alone, a carefully told and skillfully developed novel with good old-fashioned edge of the seat suspense plus a series hero who's worth his weight in gold.. One of the better additions to Audible.
"Vintage Pelecanos"
Since I have read the unabridged version and listened to the abridged this is one of the better shortenings I've come across. This is also an early exposition of Derek Strange and why he came to leave the police force. Pelecanos demonstrates his usual exceptional quality at character development and well captivating storyline. Excellent crime story. A fine place to start if you have not read Pelecanos before.
"Not Gerritsen at her best"
Weak storyline, weak uninteresting characters keep this book very vanilla and average. The series characters of Rizzoli and Isles can't save this from being a mediocre book. It's only saving grace is it is a fast listen.
