The Byzantine Fire is much more than a 90-carat ruby. As a stone it’s worth over a million dollars, a value vastly increased by its pure gold band - but its history makes it priceless. A ring that has been fought for with sword and pen, and passed from nation to nation by all manner of theft and trickery, it finally made its way to the United States. The US has agreed to return it to Turkey, but it’s about to be stolen twice more.

Would you try another book from Donald E. Westlake and/or Jeff Woodman?

    No, probably not

Has Why Me? turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no...

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Neither one was particularly riveting

    Any additional comments?

The story starts off with a brisk pace and stimulates your interest...unfortunately it goes down hill quickly....I have attempted 3 different times to listen to this story and I just cant stay with it....don't waste your money....

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

Where does Solomon's Song rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the 3rd in the series and it does not disappoint.... Very near the top in my overall favorite list!

What did you like best about this story?

I love how the characters stories were interwoven, sometimes a bit fancifully, but then again, it is fiction. This third in the series contained a bit more war and bloodshed than the first two so it was not quite as entertaining as I found the others. Having said that, I still did not want it to end any more than I did the first 2!! Very entertaining and so easy to be attached to the characters.

What does Humphrey Bower bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the Aussie and New Zealand accents... they both lend an air of authenticity.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh gosh yes, just not possible

At the start of World War II, Jack and Sadie Rosenblum flee Berlin for London with their baby daughter, Elizabeth. Upon arrival, Jack receives a pamphlet from the German Jewish Aid Committee on how to act like a proper Englishman. He follows it to the letter -Saville Row suits, the BBC, trips to Covent Garden, a Jaguar - and it works like a charm. The Rosenblums settle into a prosperous new life.

What disappointed you about Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English?

It was boring.. It really tried to be something...there was a promising beginning, but as we progressed through the chapters it became less and less entertaining. Unfortunately it never really went anywhere.

What was most disappointing about Natasha Solomons’s story?

Ms Solomon has a lovely writing style and interesting prose, unfortunately she just didn't have a very interesting story to tell.

What does James Adams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Adams does lovely and very believable accents and that is basically the only positive thing this audio book has to keep one interested.

    Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money/credits...its just not going anywhere....

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Have already recommended this book to several people and I just finished it today!

What was one of the most memorable moments of 11-22-63?

When George gets beaten up and suffers so...I was so hurt for him...

    Which scene was your favorite?

When George and Sadie dance for the first time!

    Any additional comments?

Oh my goodness! Where to start? This is totally not a typical King novel, and I am a fan from way back. There are no scary clowns, no possessed cars and no crows on power lines....having said that, there are plenty of symmetries, balances and intrigues. The story is about time travel....I know, you say

My daughter recommended this book (she had gotten the book from the library) "Can't put it down" was her statement. Well, let me tell you she was correct. From the first chapter of the book ( I have it on audio) I could not take my headphones off! I was frustrated whenever I would have to put my ipod on charge for a bit and couldn't wait to get back to it. The characters are likeable ... if a bit folksey and not always totally believeable.... the story line is a bit predictable in places but not completely. The author gives a few surprises here and there. All in all a great listen....the narrators are wonderful and the characters voices are easy to identify and the accents are very accurate and quite believeable. I enjoyed it so much and I can't wait for something more from this author!!

I swear to you, I love Goldie... I love that big, great looking, great cooking hubby of hers, I love Arch...but I really didn't love this book! The writing was terrible...I'm not even sure Diane Mott Davidson wrote this book! The story line was choppy, Arch was moody and sullen and Goldie was so ditzy and predictable that I just couldn't tolerate her. Please, I beg you, save your credits and try another one. I only got to chapter 4 or 5 I can't even remember.... or maybe the memory was so painful that I have repressed it.... Shame, shame Diane, next time slow down and write an engrossing book like we know you can!!

    Overall

I totally loved the story! The writing was entertaining tho it stretches a bit in the believability department from time to time. The character is quite likable even when he is behaving badly and he blends well with the other characters in the book. What I really disliked about the story was the ending... there wasn't one! You are listening quite contently when suddenly the story just ends! Very unsatisfactory. The book is well read and the voice is pleasing to the ear.
