Excellent book! I would give it more than five stars if it were possible. Can't wait for the second one to come out.
I used a credit to purchase this book and it was money well spent. I'd never used a hypnosis tape before and I was so surprised at how well this works for me. I put it on almost every night and I never have trouble falling asleep when I use it.
The best part is, I wake up refreshed, with all my muscles relaxed. Almost like I took a sleeping pill but without the next-morning grogginess. I plan to continue using the recording because I've had such great results with it.
A couple of light criticisms, the beneficial parts of the tape start about nine minutes in. I just bookmark it and skip to it. The first eight minutes are full of the narrator explaining what hypnosis is, etc. There's really no need to listen to the intro every night.
Second, the narrator's voice can be a little off-putting but after a few minutes of listening to him I settle in. He's good at what he does and the benefits far outweigh the negatives in my opinion.
Bravo, I'm now hooked on hypnosis as not being a total crock, but rather something that has real benefit to my life. A+
Please don't waste your time, or your credits on this book. I downloaded it believing that the author's portfolio of experiences might be useful to me as I begin prepping. Instead, it's memoir-type journal interspersed with tabloid / fantasy fiction. JRR Tolkien he ain't.
Since the author's experiences sounded great, I had high hopes. He learned stunt driving, trained with gun experts, did SOLO wilderness training. Well, I hoped that it would at least give me a place to start my own research. Instead the whole book sounds like a veteran recounting war stories. Interesting at times, but there's no real educational benefit for the listener. A few hours on YouTube would give me more education...and that's saying something.
The only thing I actually took away from this book (besides a headache) was that you do need to practice your preparedness and survival skills.
I have a lot of respect for the author - he's done and learned amazing things. It's just a totally useless text. No one can hope to possibly pick up all the skills he's learned with a twenty minute explanation, no matter how detailed. Too much scope, not enough substance here. That, and the periodic fiction was just disturbing.
For a book that is supposed to be about holding the attention of an audience, it is completely boring. I had to turn it off after an hour, and I wish I could get my credit back. The information given is definitely good, but it's so boring to listen to, that I'll never get through it.
There are much better books out there for this. Books that don't make you zone out every thirty seconds.
If you need a sleep aid, buy this one. If you want to learn how to captivate an audience, look elsewhere.
Some aspects of this book are great. It is a real discussion of habit, and techniques to change it. The anecdotes get extremely annoying. The author jumps from one story, to another, and then back again. It lacks a summary of the main point of each chapter, which would really help drive things home.
In one chapter I listened to a discussion of brain surgery and a a blow by blow detail of a big surgical error. This story was then displayed as an example of negative habits.
That sounds OK in theory, but it took the author twenty minutes to get to the point. I felt like most of the meaning of the book got buried in the examples, and there was no clarification on the meat of the information.
It's narrated well.
I've already listened to this three times, and I will undoubtedly listen to it again. One of four essential writing guides, and the best of the four. In fact, it's the best one I've ever read.
You may also want "Steal this Plot", "The Power of Point of View" and "Writer's Guide to Character Traits". If you are interested in writing in the romance genre, then "How to Write Romances" by Phyllis T. Pianka is also veryworthwhile.
Unfortunately, that's about it as far as actual techniques and discussion of the craft of writing. Everything else I've seen has been a popular discussion for folks who do not write and who are clueless about the publishing process. If you are a writer who wants to learn how to improve your writing with concrete techniques, this is the book for you.
"Familiarity breeds contempt" as in marriage, so with this audiobook.
I am so disappointed. I am halfway through this audiobook and I have yet to see any actionable steps. I fell asleep between hours 4-5, and I doubt I will go back and listen to the material I missed unless I have nothing else on my virtual book shelf to occupy my attention.
The book is a painful recount of the stories of the psychologist's patients, and nearly every problem that could exist in the bedroom. The only thing it did do well was to give me the impression that I was certainly not alone in my boredom and dissatisfaction. I already knew that. I wanted to know what to do about it! That's why I bought the book.
I kept thinking it would get better if I kept going, but not yet, and not likely from what I can tell.
If you want to know how to make your marriage better and the sex more interesting, buy a different book, like a technique manual, or use the gentler steps in the Art of Seduction. Better yet try for French Women Don't Sleep Alone. Same content, but more entertaining, and better suggestions on how to fix the problem. Definitely don't waste your time or money on this one.
Wish I had my credit back. It took all the willpower I had to listen to just half of this audiobook.
I will listen to this over and over. There is so much good, concrete information here. Techniques, explanations, how-to's, etc. It's much better than I even hoped it would be. I have already gotten along better with the new people I am meeting thanks to the guidelines in this book. I'm so very glad I bought it. It's going to be a treasured title in my audio library.
