"Interesting but kind of dry"
While I did like the way he wove history with fantasy, it was kind of dry and if I had been reading I probably would have stopped in the middle - I'm not that strong a reader anyway, and that's why I love audio.
He got the essential elements correct, history, manner of speaking and writing for the times and all that. Perhaps that is why I thought it rather dry.
All that said, it is clever and worth a look for those who love the time period of history and vampire stories.
"See Spot Run. Run Spot Run!"
Is there a way to give this book a negative number of stars?
This should have been titled "Serial Killers For Dummies"
If you like reading the dictionary and have never heard of serial killers in your entire life - this is the book for you...but you could still be bored to tears.
For the rest of us - move along, nothing to see here.
"Excelent series"
I was really pleased with my decision to continue with the second book of this series.
Great sense of action and humor is shown in this and the other two books - and I'm excited that there is a 4th one now.
I think these would be pretty good movie material on the level of something like Hellboy.
Wyman really makes the very tightly written characters to life as they were meant to be.
Entertaining all around.
"Interesting in parts"
I really like the way Preston writes and researches his material, but there were some parts of this book that I fast forwarded through. He has much better books than this here - please look for them, they are worth a listen over this choice.
"Wow - I hope times have changed"
This book makes me wonder how things were for my uncle in the 1930's in reform school. People who were in charge of this place in Florida should be in prison or in hell if they're already dead.
Very well done book. Lessons to learn here.
"Not enough for me"
It wasn't dark and thrilling enough for me - it seemed more like a Harry Potter adventure than a horror story.
The flavor of it was just not right in my opinion
"Nothing new here - move along"
I was disappointed in the direction the story took - for me there were no surprises, and nothing really great about it.
As dull as those Twilight books
"interesting"
I remember watching the movie back in 1972 as an 11 year old and being very uncomfortable with a certain scene (you know the one), but it was a good movie - so I decided to see how the book was.
It is very well written and fills in the inner thoughts that are often missing from movie translations - it is told from the point of view of Ed.
I was a little uncomfortable with his description of his admiration of his macho friend Lewis more than that scene in the movie.
It's a different book from my usual listening fare, and ultimately it is a good listen.
"An Eye Opening Read"
This book was a very interesting, humorous, and informative examination of what happens after death - especially with donated bodies. The narrator is very good.
I was thinking of donating my body to science myself so this sounded like the book to listen to - I decided to donate my organs for transplant instead haha - and once you go through this book, you'll find out why :P
"One of his most interesting books"
This one is right up there with Carrie and The Shining, and now one of my favorite time traveling novels.
Harry Dunning:and Al Templeton were among my favorites but there are many memorable characters expertly brought to life by Craig Wasson.
All the different voices he did were very captivating. There are some really good impressions that almost sound like famous people - James Stewart came to mind as he did one character's voice.
Absolutely - I listened to one of the four parts all in one sitting - it took all night, but I stayed awake - luckily I am retired and can sleep all day if I need to haha.
I am 51 and this book made me think back to a more innocent time of life when I was five years old, I had a flood of memories come back as Jake discovered the new world he had been introduced to - really nicely done by Mr.King
"Powerful"
Wow, Night is a powerful and sad first person account of the horror and atrocity of the concentration camp experience. If you read one book on the subject - make it this one. This book says it all.
