  • The Book of Fate

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Brad Meltzer
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

In six minutes, one of us would be dead. None of us knew it was coming. So says Wes Holloway, a once-cocky and ambitious presidential aide, about the day that changed his life forever. On that Fourth of July, Wes put Ron Boyle, the chief executive's oldest friend, into the presidential limousine. By the time the trip came to an end, Wes was permanently disfigured, and Boyle was dead, the victim of a crazed assassin.

    Nick says: "Too Much Psychobabble"

The book does not deliver on all of the Masonic hype. It's a very minor part of an otherwise interesting yet ultimately disappointing plot. It has a few good moments but not worth the investment of time. I found the beginning of chapters/section pauses and music most annoying. It reads like a screenplay and, no doubt, there is probably a movie deal already. I'll wait for the discount DVD. The old adage that quality is generally inversely proportional to hype rings true for this. If the tons of money spent promoting this went in to better editing and plot twists, we may have something. Two thumbs down.

  • Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs)
    • By Anthony Bourdain
    • Narrated By Anthony Bourdain

Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

    Holly says: "Kitchen Confidential"
"Tony's the one to Narrate This !"

What a great listen. I discovered Anthony Bourdain through his No Reservation shows on the Travel channel. If you've enjoyed those as much as I have, you'll love this. I can't imagine anyone else reading it like the author. From the CIA (the school, that is), to P-Town, to NYC, to Tokyo and back with a supporting cast of dishwashers, waiters, sous chefs and the best baker in the world (with no last name !), you'll love hearing about his life and exploits. Enjoy.

  • The Teeth of the Tiger

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Tom Clancy
    • Narrated By Stephen Lang

Charged with spotting terrorist threats, the top-secret "Campus" has its hands full when Middle East thugs and Colombian drug lords join forces. New Campus recruits include Jack Ryan Jr., son of master spy John Patrick Ryan, now President.

    J. Anderson says: "The Teeth of the Tiger"
    "Not one of Clancy's Best"

Not a lot of the usual Clancy attention to detail. The plot tediously unfolds as expected abruptly ending leaving one craving for more. The "dark ops" are unimaginative though somewhat plausible.
