A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days, 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic "hot" virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their "crashes" into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.

My advice when considering this book: only get it if you can stomach hearing diseased body parts being compared to food. Salami? Apparently looks like a diseased spleen. And an Ebola victim's diseased liver was compared to pudding. I'm usually OK, but it was a bit much for me.

Other than the food comparisons, this was a good book with an interesting and somewhat scary story.

Clancy plunges hero Jack Ryan into nonstop high adventure, as two seemingly unrelated occurrences being a chain of events that will stun the world. Called out of retirement to serve as National Security Advisor to the president, Ryan, with the help of CIA officers John Clark and Domingo Chavez, must prepare the untested president to meet the challenges of a new world order.

The narrator has a really monotone voice that is extremely nasally. The story itself holds my interest, but it sounds like the guy is reading the story with a clothespin over his nose. It almost makes it so I don't want to even listen.

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

    Story

Some people have written that you get used to the narrator eventually, but after several hours of listening he was just annoying me way too much. He uses the same inflection for every single sentence and ends each one with this obnoxious, breathy tone that fades out. I'm sure the story is good, but I cannot stand the narrator so I guess I'll never find out unless I get a hard copy from the library.
