While civil war looms in Oz, a tetchy oracle named Yackle prepares for death. Before her final hour, a figure known as Brrr - the Cowardly Lion - arrives searching for information about Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West. Abandoned as a cub, his path from infancy is no Yellow Brick Road. In the wake of laws that oppress talking Animals, he avoids a jail sentence by agreeing to serve as a lackey to the warmongering Emperor of Oz.

Would you try another book from Gregory Maguire and/or John McDonough?

I think I'm done with Gregory Maguire books and this narrator sucks.

Has A Lion Among Men turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No, I like fantasy books.

How could the performance have been better?

Yes, the guy sounds so theatrical I had a hard time listening to it for longer than 15 minutes at a time.

In On the Divinity of Second Chances, Kaya McLaren portrays a family on the brink of dissolution - a mother besieged by middle age, a distant father lost in daily life, and their three teenage children struggling in various ways with the family's disintegration even as they conceal a secret that could send their parents further over the edge. With the help of a group of tap-dancing old ladies, a sensual tango teacher, and a lot of luck, this family is about to learn that everyone gets a second chance.

What made the experience of listening to On the Divinity of Second Chances the most enjoyable?

The different voices for different characters was amazing! Plus Kaya's way of presenting different character flaws and strengths makes the whole book such a great reading experience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jade, I feel like she is the me that gets bottled up and put aside in my life.

    Which scene was your favorite?

All the scenes on the South Dakota farm.

If you could take any character from On the Divinity of Second Chances out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Olive, she reminds me most of me.

    Any additional comments?

Kaya is a great author and I can't wait to read (or listen) the next book!
