Travel in my car 3 hours a day, I listen to audible books both ways. I now hate to leave my car. Thinking of a way I can live in my car - kidding! But I love my audible books. They are the best part of my day.

  • Virgin River

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Robyn Carr
    • Narrated By Therese Plummer

Recently widowed, grieving Los Angeles midwife/nurse Melinda Monroe answers a small upstate town's ad for help. Nestled amongst California's giant redwoods, quaint Virgin River is host to many quirky characters - including bar owner Jack Sheridan, who may be just the man to make Melinda smile again.

Houston mom says: "Great author if you like Nora Roberts!"
"Love the book, now listening to the entire series"
Would you listen to Virgin River again? Why?

Not right away because I have so many others I want to listen to. Also got hooked on the series - so I am on book 6 right now.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the predictability of the character's, story plot, etc. Growing up in a dysfunctional family and never having a successful relationship that worked - I live vicariously through these characters. They have provided an idea to me what a somewhat "normal" life is like and what a somewhat "normal" relationships is like. I feel safe with the characters. I am not a person who likes scary thrillers, dark story lines. I like books that are uplifting, make me feel better - this book does and Robyn Carr's entire series does as well. I am definitely hooked and grateful I am.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I love the way Robyn Carr describes the love making sciences - in this book - and all of her series. They are so sweet, loving and yet delicious. Makes me envious that I never had that in my life. Robyn Carr is a gifted story teller.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love Story and I do have to say I am sorry

    Any additional comments?

Bought this book on fluke and fell in love with the entire series and Robyn Carr. I hope the series never dies. When certain characters die or move out of the series, I mourn their loss. Robyn Carr has a way of making you fall in love with them, make them become your friend, you care for them and when they are gone - your friend is gone too. I love the series. By the way, I do consider myself to very intellectual - this is the last type of book I ever thought I would fall in love with. I almost always enjoy biographies and psychology books, never romance. But Robyn Carr changed all of that for me. Like my dog who made me love again by force - continually nudging me with her nose and jumping in my lap until I could not refuse to love anymore - Robyn Carr has accomplished the same thing. Love you Robyn.

  • The Art of Racing in the Rain

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Garth Stein
    • Narrated By Christopher Evan Welch
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

"One of the best books I've ever listened to"
Would you listen to The Art of Racing in the Rain again? Why?

Yes! I never listen to books more than once. But this one I will. I absolutely love Enzo! I am so sorry the book ended. I wish it would go on and on. Author did an outstanding job of developing the dog as the main character. I cried so hard at the ending - I was driving home from work and had to pull over. That is how great the book is.

What other book might you compare The Art of Racing in the Rain to and why?

    Which scene was your favorite?

when Enzo took the legal papers that Denny was going to sign and urinated on them. What a great thing the author did - brave on his part.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

So many many parts but mainly the end of Enzo's life - was very touching. I was so moved - I cried for hours and truly mourned the loss of that character.

    Any additional comments?

Great book to listen to - you will enjoy it very much.
