"Best Book In The Series."
This book is by far the best in the series. If your reading this review and haven't heard of the Dresden Files yet then I envy you. You get to have an 11 book thrill ride with one of the most memerable heroes I have ever read about and THEN you get to listen to 'Changes'....you lucky bastard.
And as for the performance....i would give a monthes salary if i could experience Marsters' potrail of Harry at the Climax of this book one more time. Bravo.
"A good short story"
Interesting enough to make me look up book two. There is only so much you can do in a short story, but I have fingers crossed that then next book is as good. (and a little longer)
"Didn't grip me as well as the first one did."
ARRGGHHH!!! As you can see I am upset with you Evan! I'm going to buy the third book, but you better make it as good as the first one. Cause for some reason I am struggling to finish this second installment.
"I finished the book..."
...I did not immediatly look to buy the next installment. Good fun, but lacking that addictive quality that i crave so desperatly.
"Man did this book start off awesome!"
I was immediatly engaged with the main character. And by the end of chapter one I was already excited that I might have found another series to get hopelessly addicted too.
but then.....I'm not sure....Maybe it was the wierd 'twists' that the author was trying to take with the zombies (which i understand) ..... or the strange and out of place 'powers' some of the characters seem to have.....or just some of the plot events that maybe seemed like awkward extra limbs...or the behavior of the extra characters that seemed wholly unbelievable given the situation (like he tried for the 'levity in spite of long odds' that the dresden files uses to amazing effect but couldn't quite pull it off) I don't know.
I haven't given up hope, but this book has fallen by the wayside already....and I very rarely come back after that happens.
"Why do I love Space Opera?"
Probably for the space ships. This book worried me at first. I have an extremely short attention span. But even though it started a little slow (for me) I shouldn't have worried. Very soon there were mysteries i wanted answers to, characters I wanted to root for, and impossible situations for me to cheer for when they were overcome.
If you like space opera, or military Sci Fi this is simply one of the best of the genre I have come across. Satisfying fun, and I immediatly purchased the second in the series. And since I can't force myself to finish even the first half of most books I buy that is the biggest complemeint I can pay to a new series.
I'm off to read the second installment now. Fingers Crossed!
"This is my favorite book."
The headline says it all. I have already purchased this book on itunes, and just bought it again (since it went on sale) in the hopes that I might convince even one new person to read it with this review. I also have a sign hard cover in my personal library even though I never read print. If you have not yet had the pleasure....I envy you.
"It's like honey one warm bread."
"It's a Dresden book."
Marsters is back, thankfully, and Cold Days was one of the better additions to the series. It's hard to review these books individually since they all have a formula that just works. But I do have favorites....starting obviously with Changes....then grave peril and dead beat probably tie for second....and I would fit cold days in there at number 3.
Anyways, if you already a fan then this review is pointless, if you haven't read any dresden files yet then you are a horrible person.
"Got distracted..."
Simply coudn't get hooked by this story. Made it about 6 or 7 hours in, and was still sort of ...meh...
"Picked up a Reacher book for the hype...."
I liked this book. The main character is interesting, and the plot unfolds in a way that is sort of satisfying. I'll probably pick up another reacher novel in the future. That said, it's hard for a reader like me to get too excited in a series that doesn't have sci-fi or paranormal aspect to it, and this, while good, didn't make me desperate to grab book two.
"Read 14 and was hoping for more..."
Ex-heroes was entertaining enough for me to finish. But barely. '14' was so good that I was hoping for more of the same. Which isn't fair since these two books are not really in the same genre. Where '14' had a mystery that had me hooked from beginning to end, this one was more like an action adventure book with one fairly predictable twist. I'll still look for more from this author but I probably won't pick up the second book from this series.
