"Rivetting"
A cracker of a listen; I am still thinking about the final chapter. I’m not sure how I developed the opinion that McEwan was inconsistent — probably listening to too many critics and not listening to enough of his work — but this is consistently good writing.
"Excellent reading of a classic"
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this reading of a classic text that I last read 45 years ago. Ultra fresh and ultra funny.
"Brilliant"
Started off slow but the tension built listening to this utterly ridiculous but wonderful story. More from this writer SOON.
"A classic"
How refreshing to go back to le Carre's early writing and listen to this. The performance is gripping -- I couldn't listen to the end knowing the outcome as it was too stressful.
"More about Isabel Dalhousie"
I have read all in this series and am waiting for the next as Isabel's life unfolds. McCall Smith is a great story teller and the endings are always positive.
"Another Thurbron classic"
I am agog at Thubron's travels and this one is a cracker. Waiting for more of his excellence.
"Wonderful stories"
I have listened to all of this series with joy. Part of the magic is that this Scottish academic's writing and Andoh's narration make the series sound utterly realistically Namibian.
"Superb stories and narration"
Incredible twists in each plot that left me in awe of his writing and coupled with his laconic reading, this is one of Audible's treasures.
"Ridiculous plot made credible but superb writing"
What a great fantasy this is -- converting sand into salmon runs and the characters are both remarkable yet credible. Top listen.
"Another great novel from Carey"
As consistently good as his earlier work, Carey weaves a great, wonderfully written, dual-time story.
"A long-time Connelly fanboy -- no more"
I decided to listen to all of the Bosch series in sequence to get a handle on the timeline of who did what to who. After this one, I abandoned the process overwhelmed by cliche, boiler plate paragraphs, bad dialogue and boredom. Keep a year between them so you forget how badly written they are.
