"The language ruined it for me."
I think this would have been a good read if it was abridged. Never thought I would say that, but the story was good, the language too crude.
"Story was great, not the narrating."
I loved the story. The male narrator just didn't do justice to the female voices. This was a real disappointment to me. Why use a male narrator with a female star and vice versa? I love to lose myself in these books. I couldn't with this one, because sometimes I wasn't sure who was talking. Don't mean to be cruel. To me it was a wonderful book that was spoiled, not to the point of returning it though.
"Perfect"
The combination of Robyn Carr and Therese Plummer is just magical. My only complaint is that there aren't enough books. I've run out. Robyn Carr writes light and interesting. I can't stop listening. Therese Plummer is the most talented narrator I've heard. She amazes me the way she switches voices, and she's so much fun to listen to. I'm just waiting for the next book. Oh - one more thing. I thought at first that it was going to be predictable, but it wasn't. That was a very pleasant surprise. I don't want to give away the plot. Loved this book.
"Loved the story - not so much the narrator."
Robyn Carr doesn't deal with torture and really grotesque murder. I love her characters but I felt this narrator did a horrible job with the male voices. She made them totally without feeling and I didn't appreciate it. This won't deter me from future Robyn Carr stories. I only discovered her a few months ago and I read all of the Virgin River stories. They're light and they offer the perfect escape that I long for with these books.
"Loved it"
This is the first Robyn Carr novel I've listened to. I'll definitely be buying more from her. Her characters were interesting and fun and the storyline wasn't predictable. I kept predicting the opposite. Don't want to ruin the plot by saying more.
"A Little Bit Disappointing"
I love the characters and I love Nora Roberts. I can only rate this 4 stars because I was left feeling that she didn't develop the story enough, probably because it's part of a trilogy. Most of her trilogies are three complete stores, Boonsboro Inn and now In the Garden made me feel that she was stretching too thin. I would rather she does one great novel than 3. I'm hoping to read the latest Nora Roberts novels and see them as complete. She's been my favorite author, but I feel cheated.
"Not the Norm"
I read it twice now. The two things I enjoyed most are:
1 - The characters get together early. It's not the typical cat and mouse game.
2 - The evil is revealed in the very first chapter of the book but the twists in the plot kept me keenly interested. The second time I read it I picked up a lot that I missed the first time. I'm sure I'll read it a third time.
Truly delightful. I typically love the characters in Nora Roberts books and this is no different.I consider this story a very pleasant escape from reality.
"So far my absolute favorite Nora Roberts book."
My faith in male narrators is restored. Don't get me wrong, male narrators are great, just not so much when narrating Nora Roberts stories. This book is my favorite because the story and characters are real and very likable and because the narrating was perfect. I've read it and listened to it and I prefer listening to it. Gary Littman brings it to life better than my own reading.
"I think I expected too much."
This isn't a bad book, it just didn't prove to me that heaven really exists. I thought it was just another story about a near-death experience, but as I already said, I think I was expecting too much. I was hoping to have my faith restored and this isn't the book to do it.
"Loved It"
I was totally wrapped up in this book. The story grabbed my attention right from the beginning. Nora Roberts characters come alive for me. She's my favorite novelist for developing her characters.
Nora Roberts does her homework. I felt a couple of her books had more detail than feeling but this book was a perfect balance, and very believable. I actually cried at the end. I don't usually do that.
There were a few scenes that were my favorites. I loved the letters that Suzanne wrote to Jessie, her missing daughter. They were right from the heart and read very well. I also loved the scene when Callie was playing the theme from Jaws to irritate her ex.
