Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    Joseph says: "A storyteller's story"
    "Great Story, annoying reader"
    Overall

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, plot and characters. However, I was personally very disappointed by the author's monotone reading. I suggest you test listen first to make sure the author's voice does not grate your nerves.

The ancient order of the Knights Templar possessed untold wealth and absolute power over kings and popes until the Inquisition, when they were wiped from the face of the earth, their hidden riches lost. But now two forces vying for the treasure have learned that it is not at all what they thought it was, and its true nature could change the modern world.

Jane says: "Overall, a good read"
    "Torturous"
    Overall

I decided to stop torturing myself and take the buy as a loss. The fake accents are irritating enough, but the writing! This novel is full of long lists of superfluous adjectives, descriptions and explanations that distract from and add nothing to the read.
It feels like this book was put on the back burner for a good reason and only resurrected because of the Da Vinci code craze.
