I have been a fan of Carl Reiner ever since his Alan Brady days on the Dick Van Dyke show. Aside from his son Rob (meathead), I have never disliked anything he has been involved in.
I really enjoyed hearing the author read his own book. Carl Reiner made the characters come to life with just slight variations of tone and accent for each character. The story holds your interest and is full of tongue-in-cheek humor. Just when you think you have figured something out, Carl creates a new twist that keeps you guessing and wanting to hear more. He brings all of the open story lines together and then adds an unexpected twist at the end.
I am sad to say that the wait for a new E. Lynn Harris book has disappointed me. " I Say A Little Prayer" is more about preaching than it is about praying. Did the Democratic National Committee pay you for the ending of the book?
Bland characters with confusing flashbacks, along with a message of hate for political and religious leaders whose views on homosexuality do not match those of the author, corrupt the wonderful works E. Lynn Harris wrote before.
