  • Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A Signature Performance by Elijah Wood

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Mark Twain
    • Narrated By Elijah Wood
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A Signature Performance: Elijah Wood becomes the first narrator to bring a youthful voice and energy to the story, perhaps making it the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent.

james d. thomas says: "Worthy "signature" premiere"
    "Well worth listening to!"

I probably read Huckleberry Fin in High School, but that was 40 years ago. I was curious how well Elijah Wood would narrate the book and though it was one of the BEST books I have purchased so far. Elijah was very, very good at capturing the dialects and I did appreciate the original text, N word and all. I highly recommend this book. It is a classic that anyone would enjoy listening to.

  • Where'd You Go, Bernadette: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Maria Semple
    • Narrated By Kathleen Wilhoite
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

S says: "One of my top 10 listens of the year!"
If you could sum up Where'd You Go, Bernadette in three words, what would they be?

    Hysterical imaginative story

Who was your favorite character and why?

The daughter B, she was so innocent and optimistic. Also the neighbor who lived below B's family

    Which scene was your favorite?

The parking lot altercation becasue people really do such bizaar things just to make everyone conform.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Truth is better than fiction; we couldn't make this stuff up

    Any additional comments?

This story is so totally beleiveable, someone must have known these characters in real life. I have never listened to a book this well narrated and I have listened to ablut 50 books. You can tell the narrator is an actress. I strongly recommend this book. It is not just a summer read.

  • The Glass Rainbow: A Dave Robicheaux Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By James Lee Burke
    • Narrated By Will Patton

Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

    Gardner says: "Best Yet... Almost"
"I need to read more by this author"
Would you listen to The Glass Rainbow again? Why?

Yes, I am actually thinking of starting over. The narrator terrific, but the characters are many and I found I had to think a lot about which character the passage was about.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, after a few chapters. Second half was better than the first

Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?

    Dave, the main charter

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it was just a good mystery

    Any additional comments?

I'd listen to anything by Will Patton

  • The Night Circus

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Erin Morgenstern
    • Narrated By Jim Dale
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

Suzn F says: "Dreamlike Experience to Savor"
    "Didn't really care for it."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I just didn't enjoy the story. It went no where

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    made it interesting

What does Jim Dale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jim is excellent, book was not good

What would have made this romance irresistible?

    Interesting characters

  • One for the Money

    • ABRIDGED (2 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Janet Evanovich
    • Narrated By Lori Petty

Meet Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. Desperate for work, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, she cons her way into a job as an "apprehension agent" for a bail bondsman. This best selling debut earned Evanovich nominations for the Edgar, Anthony, Agatha, Shamus, and Macavity awards.

Connie says: "Abridged......Left out so much!"
    "great read"
Would you consider the audio edition of One for the Money to be better than the print version?

this was a great first book in a great, amusing series. I love the story but wish this was an unabridged edition. That being said, it was still worth reading.

  • The Help

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Kathryn Stockett
    • Narrated By Jenna Lamia, Bahni Turpin, Octavia Spencer, and others
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
    "It surprised me."

I was not thinking I would love this book, but I did. The hype made me leery. However, it it was very, very good. The cast of narrators was impressive. The many voices made it seem like a stage production, which I loved. It was well written story that made me reflect on what it must have been like to live as these ladies did. I highly recommend this book.

  • Dead Until Dark: Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs)
    • By Charlaine Harris
    • Narrated By Johanna Parker

Vampires have officially "come out of the coffin", and Miss Sookie can't wait for one to come her way.

Pamela says: "That Vampire Said ...."
    "Fun read."

I had seen the first few episodes of the show "True Blood" and was intrigued by this plot line. Also, I am a big fan of series books and had a sale on first books in many series. I did enjoy the book. The narrator was awesome. The story was good, but the ending was a bit disappointing. I am not sure I will read the next in the series. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but I was not disappointed that I listened to this book.

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

    • ABRIDGED (7 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Stieg Larsson
    • Narrated By Martin Wenner

It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden...and about her octogenarian uncle, determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder.

Willliam says: "Wishing I got the "unabridged" version"
    "Was too short"

This plot was so well devised that I wish i had bought the unabridged version. Many said the long version was slow in the beginning, but I really did not want the abridged version to end; 8 hours was not near enough!
