New York Times best-selling author Joanne Fluke’s cozy mysteries grow in popularity with each new series entry. One summer in Lake Eden, Minnesota, Hannah Swensen attends the grand opening of a newly refurbished hotel, where her famous red velvet cupcakes will be served in the new Red Velvet lounge. Story
Where does Red Velvet Cupcake Murder rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Since it seems like there are fewer and fewer books being written that are fun to listen to with my family, I'd have to rate this one in the top 10%. There are no groundbreaking fictional landmarks but it is fun, the characters are engaging and I usually am wrong about who "done it"

What was one of the most memorable moments of Red Velvet Cupcake Murder?

Doctor Bev comes back to town…. Was hoping she'd never show her face in Lake Eden again!!

Which character – as performed by Suzanne Toren – was your favorite?

    Hannah and Norman

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Red Velvet Cake - it's a killer….

    Any additional comments?

I love the recipes in this book and since I usually buy them as audiobooks and do not have the written version, I was happy to find there are websites where you can find most if not all of the recipes!! I am happy because then I can copy them into Mac Gourmet easily!! Bwahahahaha

Roxy Williams adores cats. Always has. That’s why she devotes her life to running her stray cat shelter. But is that enough? Isn’t there a man out there who will love her for who she is? A special man who won’t try to change her or ask her to choose between him and her cats? Max Weller has a problem. His son, Derek, must complete community service for fighting at school. The only available place is the stray cat shelter. But Derek is terrified of cats from a frightening childhood experience. How will they get through this traumatic experience?

    Story
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, sticking more to the story and throwing the ridiculous cat obsession!! Also I would add some more characters! Basically the whole story has 3 characters and very little interaction with the outside world...

Let's face it - Worrying about things like the cats having headaches and being anal about cleaning every scoop every day of the kitty litter were a bit annoying. The young man had an extreme fear of cats but worked off a juvenile sentence in a cats only shelter - really?

Overall the romance story behind the Cat adoption agency was sweet. The young protagonist's handsome hunky dad falls in love with the female story lead... Pretty predictable stuff, pleasant enough but even my youngest daughter thought some of the animal concerns were a little over the top...

Just fyi: We are devoted multi-pet owners and lovers so I feel we are fair enough judges about the realism...

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The thing that kept me until the end was to find out if the couple got back together after a silly breakup...

What three words best describe Deborah Grausman’s performance?

Sounds like a college girl, doesn't do any voice impressions which is fine...

Was Better Than Catnip worth the listening time?

Yes, I guess, I was happy with the way it ended and enjoyed most of it. There were definitely some slow points to get there though...

    Any additional comments?

Animals are wonderful and make our lives complete but when they are valued more than humans the balance of the universe is off. God made man to be over all of the animals - to love them and take care of them but people are much more important not on the same level as I felt this story was trying to convince the reader of.

When we value human life as God intends, we can start to value other animals below us in dominion. We need to stop murdering children in the womb, stop starving people who are terminally ill. Then there may be enough people around for all the pets which irresponsible people are to blame for being out there...

The master of medical suspense brings us another novel of controversy, biology, and human greed. Internist Matt Rutledge has spent the last five years trying to find links between the deaths of his wife and his father. He suspects the Belinda Coke and Coal Company has released toxic chemicals into the environment that have caused the "Belinda Syndrome," a miasma of symptoms that include violent and deadly paranoia in some, Ebola-like hemorrhaging in others. But he lacks proof.

Barry says: "A great audiobook by my favortie medical author!"
"A gripping story- involved multiple storylines!"
    Overall

I am a big Michael Palmer fan, his stories are always believable and intriguing. His characters are real and always quite diverse. Very talented writer!

    I highly recommend!
