I struggled to stay awake most of the time. This book is like my Grandmother's livingroom. All flowery, overstuffed and full of useless bric-a-brac. With the air way too hot.
I gave up in the end. Guess I can't return for exchange.
I did enjoy the movie.

It took me a long time to finish this book because I never got that feeling that I get with a book I really love. That feeling that I absolutly have to know what happens next. None of the characters ever had much personality that endeared me to them or made me dislike them.

It was interesting to learn of life in China during that time period.

Listening to this book was like riding a merry-go-round. You never know where it was going to drop you off next!

At first I was a little confused, dizzy perhaps, but once I figured it out, I really did enjoy the ride.

This book has it all...murder, romance, sex, scandal all told a little tounge in cheek. It is at times laugh out loud funny. Though I must admit that the ending did drag out. I thought it was over at the end of Part 3 only to find out I had another 4 hours to go.

This is by far one of the most interesting books I have listen to to date.

From the begining I was pulled into the family and into a world in the Congo I had never imagined.

True, at times it was very policital, but that did not detract from the story.

It was also one of the better read book I have heard.

One of the few books I will listen to again.

During the first few "pages" of this book i thought I would not be able to follow it because of the speed it was being read. Once the story got underway I was hooked. Don't let the suject matter of this book put you off. The charaters pull you into a world of Greek heritage and the lives of immigrants in the states. Any sexual reference is tastfully written. But if you have strong views against transgendered people I don't recomend you read this book. But then again perhaps you should.......

This book was amazing. I now wish I had read it instead of listening, just so it would last longer. It was dark and disturbing for sure, but I can honestly say this is one of the best books I have read in years.

After reading the other reviews I expected a lot more from this. It was like listening to something written by a 12 year old. I would recommend this book for a child perhaps, but not this recording of it! By the time I was at the 1 1/2 hr mark I could hardly stand the high pitched noise coming out of my speakers. Ms. Dumas would have been better off allowing someone else to narrate her book.

I really don't feel Ms Dumas life has been interesting enough to warrant a book.
