The story was good right up until the end and then it quickly became too far-fetched. I won't risk any spoilers so I'll just say that there's no way certain characters could take so much physical damage and then perform acts requiring extraordinary strength, dexterity, and skill. I kept rolling my eyes whenever this happened.

The other disappointment was the anti-climactic ending for one of the villains. And given the personality and single-minded determination to achieve their life-long goal, the other did a second rate performance of resolving the battle. There's simply no way the character would have behaved this way.

And finally my pet peeve is the narrator's portrayal of the main character. He overacts the personality and in many ways it sounds like how William Shatner would act on Star Trek by emphasizing almost random words in his lines. The narrator does a good job with the other characters but I wish he'd back off a bit on Joe Ledger.

First, Dick Hill as a narrator is horrible. He's too old for the main characters and is impersonation of female characters is unbelievably bad. He makes all the females sound like stereotypical bimbos with small, whiny voices. This would be laughable if it wasn't for the fact that you have to listen to hours and hours of it. His reading style is way over the top and in a book that is full of endless cliches it just compounds the problem.

The Nathan McBride character is built up to be so gifted and talented in so many areas that you just roll your eyes every time Peterson praises him for his skills and personality. It's one of the reasons why I stopped listening to the Jack Reacher series b/c it's so far-fetched.

If there's plus side it's that I won't be wasting a credit on the sequel.
