"Entertaining, good value... a clever story."
Ian Carmichael is a quality performer, and is so typically the character it is difficult to imagine Lord Wimsey with any other voice. He is also very skilled at using the wit within the writing to keep you entertained and interested... and to keep the story real.
Excellent value. Funny, exciting, interesting and enjoyable. A good quality story. A good intertwined plot with realistic characters.
"Exceptional work..."
Exceptional, enjoyable, gripping...
As usual Max Allan Collins' writing in this work is outstanding.
I am always delighted with his clever skills at weaving a gripping story out of an historic experience.
This book is worth every second of your time... Brilliant!!
"Old school detective stories... of great value."
The stories are not easily discerned, they take some thinking and therefore offer good interest.
Great timbre in his voice, good quality in this interpretation of the work, and depth.
The honesty of the stories... the era that they invoke and the interest they create.
"Powerful work; exceptional & gripping adventure."
This audiobook is worth every cent and every second. I would very happily recommend this book to family and friends.A masterful piece.
Ken Follett is an outstanding author. Yet, I find it very hard to compare one skilled writer's work with other skilled writer's work, even of the same genre, as their styles often differ quite dramatically... and so attempting to compare their work is a bit like debating which is the best type of friut.I can, however, state that there is no better wordsmith for his standard and style of work. The way he keeps your attention from start to finish, never under nor overstating life and it's bare, sometimes brutual, sometimes sensual, but always honest realities. He just weaves you into the lives of his characters and never lets you breath until he's finished.
I have not heard John Lee's performance before, but his reading style is personable and clever. His interpretation of humour is simple and real, and his ability to hold your utter attention in dramatic moments is highly skilled. Brilliant performance... and I will be pleased to listen to any of his other readings.
I certainly laughed at times. And, I was certainly provoked to deep consideration of incidents and experiences, astonishment for the intricate manipulations of the war machine of the early 20th century, disgust for the polarised standards of rights and responsibilities, and I was prompted to empathy, sadness and even tears for the distainful attitude of negligence for life.
Brilliant work. Exceptional story. Plot and networking to real events was outstanding. An utter pleasure that I was sad to finish. A clever, highly skilled work that will stay with listener for some time... Superb!!
"A surprisingly captivating story..."
A...
Walter's narrative is ideal for the story but could be a bit more captivating in its style.
This is about how we often accept less in life... thinking that it's enough, only to discover in time that our path, our acceptance of the ordinary, and our choices have become the walls of our own prison...
A wonderfully rich story, a finely woven life... with a main character who provokes neither affection nor consideration for her situation and her choices, her responses or her relationships until you come to realise you have beome a part of the web of her life... and that by the end you are willingly walking with her to her ultimate freedom.
A good quality story.
"Breathtaking writing, beautiful narration..."
Absolutely! This is a truly superb audiobook. You walk with the characters throughout, your heart warms to their experiences and is broken by their hardships. It is a story that searches the depth of emotions but never leaves you deserted.
I would think it difficult to compare "Jane Eyre" to any other work... It is much more the benchmark of literature than a mere classic example. If you want literature at it's most articulate, most embracing... There is none better than this "Jane Eyre".
I enjoyed her ability to keep you in the character she was expressing at all time, you believe yourself to be hearing the most masculine, daunting, solid of males when they are speaking, and you don't question the gender you hear. And yet, when you are listening to the most feminine, childlike, delicate of women or girls, you are transported into the very presence of that child or woman. Very well narrated, very well enacted, superb work Josephine Bailey.
Embrace your spirit with openness and come walk through the breadth and depth of life, tragedy and elation, and find home
