After less than a year, young Barry Laverty, M.B., is settling in to the village, with only a few months to go before he becomes a full partner in the practice. He's looking forward to becoming a fixture in the community, until an unexpected romantic reversal gives him second thoughts. Will he truly be happy tending to routine coughs and colds for the rest of his career? After all, even when a more challenging case comes along, like a rare tropical disease, all he can do is pass it on to a qualified specialist or big-city hospital. Is running a humble GP's shop all he wants out of life?

Another slice of life from Drs. Lafferty and O'Rielly with the every charming Mrs. Kincaid. This is the 4th in the series and I've loved every single one of them. The Narrater, John Keating, is absolutely perfect with his Irish brogue and his ability to give each character a different voice.

This series is a feel good, enjoyable and lively listen!

I can't wait for the next book in the series.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

The book is a fascinating look at human behavior and the circumstances that make people do the things they do.

No one, and I do mean no one can create characters like Stephen King. I've yet to read one of his book in which the character didn't drag me into the story. The plot in Mr. Mercedes is really quite ordinary, it's the characters that make it special.

To say I'm a Stephen King fan is an understatement. While I like some of his books better than others, he has never disappointed.

The year is 1703. The place: The Carolina settlement of Charles Town. Matthew Corbett, professional 'problem solver,' has accepted a lucrative, if unusual, commission: Escorting a beautiful woman to a fancy dress ball. What should be a pleasant assignment takes a darker turn when Matthew becomes involved in a murder investigation.

I love the Matthew Corbett series but this last publication is very disappointing. The story is trite and the evil characters are recycled from other books in the series. It was almost as if the publisher demanded Mr. McCammon write something, anything.

This is the first McCammon novel that has disappointed and it won't stop me from buying others. However, I'd rather have waited another year from a really good story than to have gotten this disappointing offering.

From the internationally best-selling author of Kane and Abel and A Prisoner of Birth comes Only Time Will Tell, the first in an ambitious new series that tells the story of one family across generations, across oceans, from heartbreak to triumph. The epic tale of Harry Clifton’s life begins in 1920, with the words "I was told that my father was killed in the war"....

    C. Johnson says: "Standard Archer "class-clash". Stellar narration!!"

    Story

This book had a glaring lack of research. In the book the year is 1934 and the police are reading the Miranda warning, right down to the Supreme Court wording, to someone they had just arrested. The Miranda warning was not implemented until 1966.

Unfortunately this was the only thing that stuck out in a totally unmemorable book. Absolutely predictable at every turn. I sould have used my credit more wisely.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

There is no argument the Danna Tartt is a wonderful writer. She uses words as an artist uses paint. Her descriptive narratives are so well written you can visualize exactly what she's describing. Unfortunately it dragged. She wrote and wrote and wrote scenes of Theo's and Boris's drinking and drugging until I found my mind wondering, which is something the rarely happens to me.

I am the all time lover of long books. Usually I hate to see them end. However, I had to for force myself to finish this one. There are good reasons for editors and this book is in need of a good one.

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

You know from the first few words that this book is something special. The story is basically a simple one of a little girl who lives in Nazi Germany during some of the most horrific periods in history.

Markus Zusak writing is nothing short of magic. It's one of the few books, that when you've finished reading it, you know without a doubt you've been reading literature.

Special Agent Pendergast arrives at an exclusive Colorado ski resort to rescue his protégée, Corrie Swanson, from serious trouble with the law. His sudden appearance coincides with the first attack of a murderous arsonist who - with brutal precision - begins burning down multimillion-dollar mansions with the families locked inside. After springing Corrie from jail, Pendergast learns she made a discovery while examining the bones of several miners who were killed 150 years earlier by a rogue grizzly bear.

Too little Pendergast and too much Corrie. The character Corrie lacks depth and in just about all instances common sense. The decisions she makes are much in line with that of a 5 year old. Her behavior was unforgivably rude and nasty toward Pendergast, considering he is the one who made it possible for her to escape her abusive mother. I found nothing in her character redeeming. Hopefully she'll just disappear in future Pendergast novels.

    The narrator was fabulous.
