Fantastic tale that adds to the Oryx & Crake mythos. The only thing I would change is that horrid music. The preaching was okay, but that music was killing me.
Clever book that is worth reading if you want to hear about the coming robot apocalypse. However, the author tends to turn every ordeal into an epic moment. No matter if it is climatic or mundane, the cast is "pushed to the limits of human extreme - gritting their teeth in total absolute effort beyond the most greatest challenge ever" as they crawl out of bed.
Concept is great, but don't read unless you can tolerate hyperbole and that kind of geeky foreshadowing were someone acts like something coming up is the PENULTIMATE BADARSE THINGY, but you don't get told what and have to wait four chapters to see.
I'm a combat veteran, but of a different war. The emotions in any conflict are always the same though. I can atest to the raw feelings this book contains. Also, the tatics and terminology are accurate too, which is so rare in any military novel.
I was surprised that this book turned out as bad as it did. I have read most of his work, including the two before this in the series, and was flabergasted by the hasty and poor execution. He had been fair through his other two books between atheism and theism - with balanced science on both sides of the arguement. For this one, it is an all out (amatuer) assault on religion as the source of everything evil in the world and it is all some kind of genetic defect. Can evil acts be blamed on religion? Sure, but everyone who studies more than transcripts of George Bush's speeches know that evil men grab religion as an exuse to get people to do things on faith. Faith doesn't cause evil, Mr. Sawyer, evil men do and then blame religion.
Was surprised at how bad this book was.. Not just for JP, but any author. Both the thought and idea were there, but it smacks of first time writing without editor help on plot. More dues ex moments than I could handle, especially since the guy is supposed to be like a super hero.
Quality writing supports a first rate plot. It's hard and painful, to listen to what happens to the characters, but intensly worth it! Download now!
