"A good listen"
I love this narrator! She is excellent. As for the story, it's good. The plot was a little bit predictable in some places, and very suspenseful in others! It's a good listen if you like some mystery, murder and a bit of unbelievable romance. It's a good listen.
"False Advertising"
I do enjoy Agatha Christie, but when I this popped up as Hercule Poirot, I was not expecting him to be a character who is only featured on occasion. Also, of all the plots, I found this one the most hard to believe at the end...not a bad listen at all, just not my fave of the Hercule Poirot stories.
Absolutely, have listened to lots of her other stuff and enjoy it.
Poirot. Shocker, since I was seeking stories about him...
Nope. Movies are long, overpriced and not worth it unless they are the Lord of the Rings or James Bond :)
Love Audible!
"Good for kids and adults alike"
The narrator has an easy-to-listen-to voice, though not a lot of emphasis on distinguishing between characters.
Mullet Fingers was my favourite, because he is a determined mystery.
Clear sarcasm and conviction in the storyline.
Actually, no. It's quite realistic and I needed short breaks from reality.
A great book by Carl Hiassen for readers that prefer a real taste of reality. If you've read his adult titles you will find this one completely non-sexual, but still full of wit and sarcasm. It's definitely a
"A good listen for busywork"
I have always enjoyed Tom Clancy, and this one is an oldie, but a goodie! I had not read some of the earlier books, so learning about some of the characters in later novels was fascinating. The narrator has a pleasant voice, but seems to lose track of whose voice is whose a couple of times in conversations, so listen to those carefully. I always prefer unabridged, but I found this one especially long. I sometimes tuned out, only to realize something important had happened, still I followed the novel with relative ease while working on other projects. If you're a big fan of Tom Clancy, give it a listen. If you're a bit impartial to him, he has faster paced books than this to listen to.
"My first Koontz"
I had never heard or read a Dean Koontz book, and went on the recommendations of audible listeners for this one. The narration is really excellent, I actually gave an extra star just based on that. The story itself started seemingly without purpose and gave me such a sense of unease and discomfort with the topic that I almost stopped listening--but patience paid off. Though there are some very unbelievable elements to this book, the characters and story are so carefully built up that when you finally realize what is going on, you can believe it is happening (assuming you don't mind a little science-fiction in your repertoire of reading). There were lots of twists and turns to this story, though I found in the end I was pretty sure what would happen. A thoroughly enjoyable listen, and as a friend said "Oh yes! And oldie...but a goodie."
"Good stuff"
Although I don't always agree with his political views, I do enjoy Tom Clancy's novels. Detailed, descriptive, intense, he always brings up fascinating topics, and this one is very relevant to the day. I enjoyed the dual perspective of both good guys and bad guys, even if the good guys perspective did prevail at times, as well as the continued use of past characters with reference to their past deeds. This novel brought up many debatable topics about covert operations and politics in general. I did at times get a little lost in the characters and plots, but picked them back up pretty easily. Be prepared for some strong political views written into the novel with a bit more bias than I personally generally appreciate, but for a good novel with another interesting "Jack Ryan" character involved. Good narration as well.
"Very good for an abridged version"
The narrator is great, the plot suspenseful and the book is a bit different from the movie. Although you lose the translation with an abridged novel in terms of character development and subplots, I thought they did a really good job with this one.
"Good for Abridged..."
I really enjoyed this book, and the narrator did a good job. However, you lose so much in terms of getting to know the secondary characters with abridged books, so the subplots were rather un-satisfying. This book was also a bit predictable, but enjoyable none-the-less.
"Creepy and Suspenseful"
This book is so creepy, but the suspense kept me listening. The plot is well thought out and the narrator is easy to listen to. Another Grisham novel that I really enjoyed.
"Intriguing"
Although not as much thrilling action as I was expecting, the twists and turns and complexities of this plot kept me listening almost non-stop. Even when you think it's over...it's not! It kept surprising me right up until the end.
"Boring till almost the end"
Although this was an interesting topic and an author I really enjoy I constantly found myself tuning out and having to back up to re-listen to what I had missed. There are lots of little details, it's told almost all in one tone of voice, the characters are hard to get to know, and then all of a sudden at the end it becomes engaging, interesting, suspenseful and worth listening to. It's your call if you're willing to go through the first half or more at a slow pace.
